    C'tan downgrade

This is just a thought, so don't all warscythe me at once, but

I reckon, there should be a version of each C'tan that is available at substantially lower points value. This would help to give Necron armies a little bit more variation that opponents and players themselves so often desire.

Fluff wise, the C'tan can't be every where at once in person as it were, and I personally think that the inclusion of anything resembling a 'god' in the game is a bit too much really. So they could expend just a bit of their sentience and living metal, siphon a bit of themselves off to various locations while the main body does other things, or rests etc.

Naturally, there would be 1 for each C'tan still in existence, so 4.
That would also give the Dragon an appearance without necessarily ripping the false emperor's fading empire apart.

This would give a unit which costs less and consequently has less abilities, but isn't so broken to use, and can be fielded in an army which doesn't break the table or the bank.

GW should then make multi part plastic models with various different optional parts. All available for the reasonable price of 5 english pounds... ok, now I'm talking rubbish.:w00t:

meh, let the galaxy burn i say.

Hmm I'm not sure that the C'tan have the ability to seperate a piece of themselves. They can take whatever form they like and are very powerful, but they strike me as very singular beings who wouldn't split their power up even if they could.

That being said, I like the idea of less powerful C'tan. According to the necron fluff I've read, C'tan evolved on stars, much the way people evolved on planets. So in theory there ought ot be heaps of them that we haven't seen or heard of yet (correct me if I'm wrong).

What I'd like to see is a sort of make-your-own-C'tan box and set of rules. Give them a set of advantages and drawbacks and different equipment, although nothing quite as powerful as the current special character C'tan. I think it would bring a lot more variety to necron armies as well as a greater feeling of the army being "yours" rather than a carbon copy of so many other necron armies. Y'know, you'd be like "hey this is my necron army, led by my great and all-powerful sun god... Sunny" (sorry, it's late). I just think it would add a lot more flavour to the army.

Oh and Karmoon, I am following you! :ninja:

As it says on pg. 25 of the Necron Codex (under "necron ascendancy"), the C'tan eventually devoured themselves. Now there are only four left. The Nightbringer and Deceiver, and two "sleeping C'tan". The void dragon and the outsider. Hpwever there may be some more still sleeping.

C'tan aren't all-powerful. They are contained in a necrodermis, which allows them to walk among mortals out of their natural sate. This is why they can be defeated in battle. This means that their abilities could very depending on how much power the had absorbed and how strong their necrodermis is. This means that the two C'tan could have weaker forms.

    Yee gads! heh heh.

As far as my codex makes me aware, there were loads of C'Tan, all the ones who were given living metal bodies by the necrontyr and thus made tangible, were harvested by Night Bringer after being deceived by the... Deceiver.

The reason why I thought about the seperation was, the C'tan can't use the warp, so possession or apparitions or such things aren't very fluffy.
But there's a very fluffy bit with an assassin and her C'tan phase blade being absorbed by a C'tan. I thought that was kind of cool, and wondered if it could go both ways. If not absorb something, why not secrete something also?

I'd be a bit dubious about the make your own C'tan rules, not because it's a bad idea, but because there are unscrupulous people who would take advantage of such things and it would be a nightmare trying to regulate it.

That said, I think there should be a specialist forum at GW official where you can put forward your ideas for characters, including special rules. And if the character gets 'Chapter approved' then there the character is officially playable provided you have opponent consent etc.
I guess, you could put together some system using the old rogue trader and the legion of the damned chaos books, which, if my memory serves, had a create your own greater daemon section in it.

The monotony of necrons doesn't bother me at all personally, but it'S always nice to have an option. At tournament levels, I'm sure pretty much all armies of a race look similar.

I'm gonna go and have some toast.

posted the same time as Zed (also a mighty letter) sorry for repetition

There are only 4 C'tan left, that is a fact. Build your own C'tan is out of the question much like Pariahs with WBB.

Although making your own C'tan might be out of the question, it would still be nice to make your own varients of the current two C'tan. Giving them different stats depending on how powerful their necrodermas is. Or giving them a range of different abilities to pay for. etc.

What Zed said is spot on.
I wasn't suggesting the creation of a new C'tan, just having some control over the potency of the C'tan that you choose for your army.
I want a mini deceiver, nay a mere trickster to lead my army. And give him more toga to cover his shame. All for 150 pts or something.

Bang, it can suddenly fit in your army and you can't be called cheesy - not that you ever should for fielding a perfectly legal codex unit
