Welcome to Librarium Online!
I'm new to 40k, tell me why Tau are so good any feedback would be good.
well the Tau are Excellent shooters. If you like a shooty army this is the way to go. They are very mobile. Devilfishes and FW teams make an excellent combo. Thet BattleSuits are the Pride of the Tau Army a good team of 3 Crisis is good and the Broadsides are a must. The tanks are good espesically against Imp Guard. You need Kroot for the Hand to Hand Combat. The Tau do not fight well in hand to hand. The Fast attack choices are good with pathfinders and vespids. Hope you pick a Tau army.
First off, realize that Tau are one of the hardest races to play. Most of the other armies specialize in close combat and Tau leadership is the second worst in the game in my opinion (next to Imperial Guard). We have long-range weapons but the battlefield is always 48" wide to make sure the enemy can reach us by turn 3 at the latest. Do you like an uphill battle all the time?
Next, I would direct your attention to our battlesuits and tanks as FW26 did. These are what make Tau worth playing! You will likely build your army around one or the other and probably both. If you like these models and how they play on the field then I recommend going blue.
Bear in mind that while our weapons are impressive, we don't have as many of them as other races. Foe example, our Hammerhead has 1 railgun but the Predator can have 3 lascannons, which gives it more firepower in some situations. The Guard has quantity, we have quality.
You should also play Tau if you think the purpose of the Assault Phase is to run like a turkey on Thanksgiving Eve...

THAT LAST COMENT WAS VERY WELL SAID. ALL I CAN SAY IS EVERY RACE IS EQUAL, WHEN IT COMES TO DOWN TO POINTS. WITH TAU YOU HAVE TO SET YOUR ARMY EXTRA SPECIFIC FOR YOUR TASKS. AND THEY ARE PROBS ONE OF THE HARDEST ARMYS TO USE. THEY HAVE AN OBVIOUS WEAKNESS AND STENGTHS (BAD AT HTH GOOD AT MOBILITY AND SHOTTING) WICH IS GOOD TO KNOW SO YOUL HAVE TO AVOID HTH AT ALL COSTS AND MOVE TO DISTANT FIREING POSITIONS.
What you all forget is what armies Tau EXCELL against and what Armies THEY DONT
here IMO is a list ok our good and bad opponents
IG (im still shakey on it thouigh)
Chaos Space Marines
See the Tau tank has the ability to fire a submunition round that is STR6AP4 and uses the large blast marker. It is not Ordanance it is simply Heavy 1 The broadsides have just one Rail Gun that is Twin linked, but these guys are great, they excell in taking out tanks and especiall dreads and even commanders. Sniper drones are also great because it is a STR 6 AP 3 gun they use that can pin and kill SM outright. If you accompany a Markerlight, you should kill 2 SMs' a round.
Dronjes in a second squadron IMO are not a good use of points, but im sure someone will argue that. Pathfinders are awsome to use, their markerlights kick but, remember though, you have to be stationary to fire it. IMO DO NOT get vespids, they are not a good use of points at all. Piranahs are ok, the fusion blaster is nice for killing light armorer tanks and commanders.
FW and Kroot are some of the best infantry In the game. Kroot have their Fieldcraft and Hound kics butt and the FW is the best use of point in terms basic infantry
People really like Crisi suits, you can customize them to fit your appeal (Like a scion?) and if used right, can really do some damage! Also they look so much cooler than anything else.
Stealth suits are awsome for a JSJ (jump shoot jmmp) tactic, in movement the jump out, their assault 3 guns shoot, and jump back in assault phase.
Commanders are cool and you have to have one in your army, its nice to give them all the special issue (one per army) stuff as well IMO dont get an Ethereal, they are awsome for morale, but they are easily killed and if they do almost all your Tau go screaming like nancies.
Scpecial characters are scool Aun Va isnt but i g2g to school

I'm not sure if tau are that good against tyranids as there are many nids units that can easily get a turn 2 assault. Not to mention your JSJ really won't make you last very long as almost all tyranid units have fleet of claw. The main weapon you have against us is FW and sub round on the HH. The FW won't last long at all(though they might last longer using FoF though we actually have a chance of going around your vehicles still) as you may only get one turn of shooting. HH will be targeted with all the tyranids firepower they have(though that may not be much the VC is no laughing matter). Well that's just my rant I don't like tyranids considered easy prey(though they sometimes are  ) now to the OP out.
Tau probally have some of the best fire power in the game though they can't fire in the biggest of quanties(like the IG can) but with markerlight support they can make most of the shots count where they need to. Though the reliance on markerlights is also a downfall as well since once you lose them your armies effectiveness goes down a lot.
Is it me or does any other necron player get annoyed when they see people saying "Necrons eat souls". How is that even possible as souls are part of the warp and necrons want nothing to do with it? Eh probaly me just me being picky.

tau can be the worst or the best at taking out nids. we have lots of plasma and fusion for godzilla nids, and those pie plates for hoard/geanstealer armies. yes, we suck at HtH, but if you play it right you can win. with nids it depends on the players more than army composition.

You can also look at the benefits of playing Tau from a few different angles as well. From a fluff point of view, the Tau are a young and dynamic race full of hopes and dreams for the future. While this makes them very naive and not at all aware of the hatred and bitterness of the universe outside their little galaxy (except for people like O'shovah), you can either really sympathise with their cause or end up hating them because they are "too nice" for the 40K universe. Then there's the fact that they are a stylish and actually quite tactical army compared to Chaos, Guard, or Marines, who can be relied upon to bludgeon their way through any opposition. They are quite varied and customisable, much like Tyranids.
On the subject of Tyranids, they are actually fairly difficult for a take-all-comers Tau list to beat as they have numbers and speed on their side - it becomes a lot easier if you tailor your list with loads of Fire Warriors and Stealth Suits to take out Nid infantry. The only thing I can say is Synapse and Fearless creatures first, then mop up the Gaunts.
Even then, it's rather hard...
Yes that is what our Rail Guns are for, on HH they can almost force a zoanthrope ond hive tyrant to take a 6 up invuln or straight up Die. Nothing says fun (to me) like having a friend boast his tyranid army only to have his infantry walking around like chickens with heads cut off.
As Nite Rabbit said, Tau are very young and very small, so the cool thing is introduced, the whole civilization will take it in together, where as in the Imperium, it is near impossible to change anything except how they feel about warp travle and their beloved emperor.
A quick note on that - all creatures within Synapse range (including the Synapse creature itself) are immune to Instant Death. Sorry, mate.
