It is my sacred duty to save your soul from the Dark Gods of Chaos... and I willsave your soul, even if you die in the process.
Looks like Eldar are awaiting a new codex, which could potentially spawn massive changes.
Probably best to wait for that as the dynamic my change quite a bit.
In the mean time, it's probably a good idea to read the tacitas and articles available.

Umm... Dire avengers are good at killing light infantry, not space marines...
The eldar style of play is very different to other armies, they are very mobile and fast and can be either shooty or assaulty or a mixture of both. The main difference is, pretty much all the units (bar the warp spiders) can only do one thing and they excell at that and nothing else, you won't be seeing any fire dragons mow down hordes of infantry any time soon. The elar units all have to be supported by other units or it will rarely work, they fit together like pieces of a jigsaw puzzle. Eldar can be played in several ways with the different craftworlds lists, biel tan usually want to get up close and personal with the enemy with either short ranged firepower (dragons, avengers, spiders) or close combat (banshees, scorpions) whereas samm hann are more hit and run with their jetbikes, avoiding prolonged conflict like the plague, Iyanden are exceptionally tough but low in numbers whereas Ulthwe usuly has relitively high numbers due to all the guardians, backed up my more farseers and warlocks than usual. Alaitoc is a good shooty are, with lots of snipers, they work well backed up with dire avengers to fill in the anti infantry role which snipers just don't have enough shots to cope with, and striking scorpions, who also infiltrate like the rangers and are a good counter assault unit, this is needed because alaitoc pretty much are terrible at combat. As a general rule, eldar are faster than just about all other armies out there except for dark eldar and perhaps speed freaks. Eldar are pretty darn good at combating marines with dark reapers, fire dragons, howling banshees, starcannons and even striking scorpions and warp spiders but can fill in any role in a satisfactory way. They aren't too great against necrons though but a good player can easily overcome those weaknesses. So the good things about them are good mobility, customisable, and powerful on the attack, but the disadvantages are typically that they are very fragile and can't stand up to much return fire (can dish it out but can't take it back) and if the enemy can isolate your units and prevent them from working together that pretty much ruins you.
