Basically, me and my friend have a game coming up (my necrons versus his gaunts) and he is bragging how he can get a first turn charge with his broodlord and retinue. And although I say he cannot do this, he insists he can, so I have come to the experts on this theory. (what have i been reduced to, asking a gaunt for help....)
His theory is, that if he deploys the Broodlord at the front of his retinue after infiltrating him, he can then use the fleet of foot on his genestealers, and so the broodlord ends up at the back of the squad, with the genestealers in charge range (presuming theres a unit near enough).
So can he do this? I have already explained the whole must be 12 inches between us, so he can't reach me with first turn charge with footslogging guys by the way.
Thank you almighty hive mind! (not really all that mighty.... hee hee:shifty: )
Your friend is incorrect, he cannot get a first turn charge with his brood lord.Originally Posted by necron colony 26841
The Brood Lord lacks Fleet of Claw, and because he cannot fleet, his retinue loses the ability to fleet as well (If all the models in a unit do not have the same "special effects", only those which state they effect the whole unit apply... for example, the Brood Lord grants Infiltration to his Genestealers, but they do not grant Fleet to the Brood Lord (and therefore lose the benefits of the fleet ability).
Actually you can. But the player must be really dumb to do this. You deploy your BL 12" from him. Teoretically , you cannot assault him on turn 1. TEORETICALLY. If he starts the game, and he moves towards the BL (one 1" is enough actually), then in your turn, you are 11" from him and can assault him preatty easily

sorry but there is no way you can get a 1st turn assault you have to deploy more than 12", not 12"but 12,05" for example.
What they were saying above is, if you lose initiative for the first turn, and your opponant advances slightly, it -is- possible to get a "first turn assault"... just not a first turn, first phase assault.Originally Posted by Dreachon
