Anyone try a without number army?
I gave one a shot today with all 6 troop spots for termagaunts of size 10. the rest of my 2000 point force was a shooty tyrant, a cc tyrant, shooty carni, zoanthrops, biovores, deep striking mines, licors, and some shooty warriors.
If my friends and i played by victory points, im sure i would have lost- but we play until everything is dead or the player bails out.
my carnifex died on round 2 from a banshee assault.
My cc hive tryant killed a full unit, and finished off 2 HQ squads, and the remaninder of the banshees before finally dying.
The avatar took 4 waves of termagaunts down in close combat before finally dying.
zoanthropes must have missed 75% of their shots.
So WON worked for me, the enemies did not have the AP 2 firepower to knock out the zoanthropes and tryant.
Oh, whats are the rules for assaulting a skimmer? How many attacks do i get, and what roll do i hit on? I misplaced the book.
normal number of attacks, but hitting on 6s
i've been thinking about Without Number, but havnt actually gotton a chance to use it yet... if you could take it on hormagaunts i'd've taken it a long time ago

I don't ussually take many guants, but If you are going for a large amount of gaunts, I would give em without number. Becaues the enemy will always keep being pestered by gaunts, gaunts and more gaunts. And since gaunts are fast, they will get into range/combat fast so its worth taking.
One Shot, One Kill
Banshees have fleet, which he got a 6 on, which he went first. i moved the carni a bit more closer to use the twin devourers, and during the opponents turn he assaulted the carni with another good fleet roll. he also hit it with a prism tank and did 2 more wounds in combat with the banshees on his turn. my next turn, they took him out.
I've used W/O N a few times, and they were all successful. My friend tried to say he would "ban" its usage in future games (and he's even a BT player, imagine the nerve, LOL). He couldnt take down my Tyrant that sat in cover and blasted away, all the while close enough to bring all those millions of gaunts back on the board. DEFINITELY worth it. I'm playing my nephew in two days, and plan to use W/O N again...
Lower/Lesser rating always ships first!
I haven't actually tried won due to my limited experience, but either take all squads with or without won.
thats what i say
not that anyone listens to me, but thats a different story.

does the enemy get the full victory points for the squad every time they kill it if you are using WON? if so I can't imagine it being very effective.
Yes they do get full victory points for them though gaunts aren't exactly the most plentiful of victory points as you would have to kill two or three to equal one genestealer. Either way I still don't like it though it isn't that bad of a fluff idea IMO.
Is it me or does any other necron player get annoyed when they see people saying "Necrons eat souls". How is that even possible as souls are part of the warp and necrons want nothing to do with it? Eh probaly me just me being picky.

My problem with without number is I would rather use the *pts per gaunt to buy more gaunts. When I win with Tyranids its because I hit together and overwhelm the enemy. If my enemy weathers the storm he wont have much trouble shooting up an out of synapse range gaunt squad from the other side of the table. Gaunts piecemeal suck, guants as part of a fearless supported horde rock. Hit him so hard first time around, he doesn't get a second chance.
It is quite fluffy though.
I like the WON addition, for fluff. I would take it for say, hormagaunts (pt cost would probably increase to +5 or so), but on slow moving spinegaunts and termagants, it starts losing it's playability, especially when they get full points for each destruction of the brood. On the other hand, it would be absurdly unbalanced if they didn't get full points for destroying the brood repeatedly, I mean, unlimited gaunts? How would we like it Chaos got unlimited bloodletters, or eldar got unlimitied guardians, or God forbid the IG get unlimited troops!
