I have some questions:
Is the Necrons made for shooting things or to go into assault?
Will there come a new codex anytime soon?
more shooty but have some decent CC units, and i dout the new codex UNLESS they release the new C'Tan, then its a whole nother ball game.
In the name of god impure souls of the living dead shal be banished into eturnal damnation. Amen.
So, Necrons are not known to be awesome assaulters,a few units like the c'tans are gods incarnate and will do very well in combat, but the necron warrior is most definitely not. They have a good strength and toughness, their initiative is abysmal. What they do for assault is they out last their oponent, and win through consistant attrition.
The necron codex will most certainly not be re-written any time soon.

WINDMILLS DO NOT WORK THAT WAY!
Yes necrons are much better shooters than they are at assualting but they are not horrible at it. For instance, the close combat Fear army works pretty well and warriors aren't all that bad in CC. Except for initiative, there space marines with some pretty sweet bionics.
Necron assault isn't as bad as many people make it out to be. A lord with either weapon is still good in combat (remember, SoL is a power weapon), and Flayed Ones and Wraiths are both good. Warriors are lacking in initiative, but they have good weapon skill, strength and toughness. Of course, even with the good assault units, don't expect to give Chaos or 'Nids a battle in close combat.
Necron have very specialized units, such as Wraiths (Either Quick Response Units, or Just to tie things in CC), Flayed ONes (Mostly used to Infiltrate and be used as a sort of 'Speed Bump' against most CC armies), and Scarabs (Tank Hunters/Speed Bumps).

I don't use my FO's as speed bumps; I like to hover around the edges and hit into the core units after infiltrating. It works well
