Scourge with Dark Lance - I am sure that you have wondered about the sanity in putting jump packs (wings) on a heavy weapon carrying warrior/ Each of these features are mutually exclusive, you move then you can't shoot or you shoot and then you can't move, either way this has got to be to strangest combination in the entire dark Eldar army. I know this results in everyone equipping them with the splinter cannon option and even them they are not a popular choice because of their points cost so I was wondering if anyone out could come up with a fix for this broken combo?
Some of my thoughts were -
Allow them to be used with the jump packs removed and reduce their point cost, just like Marines do (imagine a sniper squad with 4 Dark Lances),
Allow them all to be used with pistols and a close combat weapon ( much like having a squad of 5 sybarites},
Allow them the blaster option so they move and shoot in the same turn ( cut down the barrel of the existing lance weapon so that they can be used),
Or just allow them to fire the lance weapon after moving with a new rule up date.
Any thoughts on this would be appreciated,
I had the same thought, a while back. The only issue would be if there were some fluff specifically depicting Scourges as a particular caste for which the jump-packs are integral.Originally Posted by wickywacky1That'd be more appropriate for a Fast Attack choice.Allow them all to be used with pistols and a close combat weapon ( much like having a squad of 5 sybarites},That'd be good, but given its short range, this might make them more appropriate as a Fast Attack choice.Allow them the blaster option so they move and shoot in the same turn ( cut down the barrel of the existing lance weapon so that they can be used),For such an ability you can guarantee that they'd have to be alot more expensive, though just as fragile. Not a good combination. . .Or just allow them to fire the lance weapon after moving with a new rule up date.
Why do the survivors remain anonymous -- as if cursed -- while the dead are revered? Why do we cling to what we lose while we ignore what we still hold?
Name none of the fallen, for they stood in our place, and stand there still in each moment of our lives.

In answer to Ostol's last post -
Is there any fluff on Scourges making them a particular caste with integral wings? I am sure that GW could easily rework that one.
The pistol and close combat weapon choice and the blaster option would i ndeed place them into the fast attack choice area but is interesting and the idea that I would most support.
And firing the lance weapon after moving, I agree it would attract a substantial point cost increase but on the other hand it is the change that would be the most transparent ( no models being modified).
What cost do you think would be fair for a scourge that can move and fire on the same turn using a lance weapon? Just imagine 4 jump troops with lances appearing on the enemies line and letting rip with tank busting fire. Very Dark Eldarish!
In terms of points, a unit of 5 scourges with Dark Lances, comes cheaper than two sniper squads, giving you more bang and manuverability for your buck, but at the cost of only having one ablative wound.
If the scourges with their superior range and manuverability, could be kept in a place with cover saves, and where small arms fire can't effectively reach them, they could potentially use the dark lance option quite effectively.
The fact that they also are more flexible tactically also enhances their worth....
I'm beginning to think DL scourges have worth, that is perhaps overlooked...
In terms of a change, I definately wouldn't say no to an incrase in armour, befitting of their wingliness...
A 4+ save perhaps? that turns invulnerable when they move?

minimalism is the key.
All good thoughts, thanks. I did not consider that the cost of dark lance scourges actually COULD be worth while, dismissing them without analysis. But I now now see that if you could indeed keep them out of harms way they would be quite effective for their points cost. The main worry is how to do it as many other troops have a similar problem too. Just like facing a Marine Devastator squad, they would be a priority on "shoot first and ask questions later" list. With Dark Eldar its all tactics, tactics, tactics, which one do you sacrifice so that the others benefit temporarily from it.
