I would like to know what some people think their hq (ie archon) shoud be on.
If you have a raider, he usually sinks faster than the titanic in turn one(if your opponent has an IQ of 15). But if you place him on a reaver jetbike he loses the valuable incubi retinue, while gaining +1 to S and T.
You are allowed 2 HQ choices...
Arr yes..........two. Bu ha har.
A Rhino? SLOTH!
Well...incubi aren't that good. Sure, they perform impressively once they made it into close combat against marines, but with such an expensive HQ on a fragile raider you can lose a LOT of points to a single lucky shot or a whirlwind. They can be effective, but it's dangerous to use them, in a way that can hardly be calculated. They are also still very vulnerable due to their low toughness and high point cost, in fact each ranged weapon hit against an incubus costs you almost as much as a hit against a wych, and wyches are unquestionably extremely vulnerable. Incubi also prevent your Lord from FoFing, so they are a way slower HQ than wyches are once the first close combat is over.
It's also very annoying to watch your remaining 150+pts HQ run off the table because you failed a morale check and you're below 50% because you lost some incubi...
I prefer a reaver lord, definitely.
I prefer a lord in a Raider, either with Incubi or with a squad of Wyches. Zoom them up 24" in the first turn, let them get shot down, then assault next turn. You loose a couple of models to the crash, but that's usually no big deal. In the mean time, you've got an uber HTH unit in your opponent's backfield, taking up his concentration, while your Talos and other troops are advancing.
If you're playing with the TVR, though, this doesn't work as well. Under the TVR, I may have to amend my tactics.
Would having a night sheild on your raider be useful. It is an expensive upgrade but might help a bit in getting the units into close combat in one piece.
P.S. If you have an Archon can you have a Dracite?
on a reaver with a rever squad keeps him fast
incubi are amazingly good. Many of my battle brothers and i all agree that for their cost they are among if not the best model in the game. Yeah, it sux if their raider is shot down, but there are numerous ways around this
1: use good old fashioned terrain hopping skills to always keep them hidden
2: screen em with other, less expensive raiders (like warrior/wych raiders)
3: WWP them right into the thick of things
even if they still get shot down, chances are with their good armor save, you wont lose any incubi, maybe one max, and as long as they are within a turn or two from jumping into the fray, their space marine armor is usually able to protect them well enough to be nearly unscaved (you may lose one or two, but that is it)...
if they are left in the open when their raider is fragged...then you should be beaten severely for lack of good planning, always try and keep something else in front of em to take hits, or try and tie up other guys with wyches and such until incubi get in there.
My 1500 point HQ is usually the standardly decked out archon, drazhar, and if not fighting necron, 5 incubi, and one incubi master with animus vitea (it truly pays off, as it multiplies your capture VP's by 5, and gives the master a much welcome strength and initiative boost).
sure, you may say "hey you dumbass, when they die, you're f*** didly-ucked." But it has yet to fail me ever, in fact, most my victories are all due to the success of my "HQ on Crack" as i now call it, and i have never lost a game thus far in which my HQ on crack has entered CC.
I have an archon on a raider model and another archon incase i need to put him on a raider. I dont know, its all about the situation to me.
Raider-i really like the idea of a supporting unit as even though the archon is one heck of a model on the table, fighting alone doesnt seem right against armored armys. I bring 5-6 incubis for support in these cases.
Reaver-as it is smaller, i can take advantage of cover way more easily. I use this when i have a specific target im going after and know that my supporting squads in raiders can take care of the rest. I use this to take care of small squads of elite or one on one death match w/ my opponents hq.
I put my archon on a raider, with his retinue of 7inubi and urien he's set
