Welcome to Librarium Online!
I have been struggling 2 find a good unique name for my hive fleet but nothing has come 2 mind...ne suggestions?
i owuldent really look to others for sugestion. me myself dont really havea fleet name. but you should look to things that interest you or latin or biblical names and things. forign words ect. to give it a more exotic feel. look around the right name wil just fit. you also want to use a name that describes your army. i mean you wouldent want like hive fleet panzer for example (panzer being a WWII tank) for a army of swarmy little not shooty die easy bugs. but it would work more for say a godzilla army.
It is my sacred duty to save your soul from the Dark Gods of Chaos... and I willsave your soul, even if you die in the process.
Look up names of mythical monsters, giants, and demons. I find that the Mesopotamian gods are a great source for names. Find two or three you like, and mix 'em to make something truly sinister sounding.Originally Posted by TyRaNiDkInG
Also... try not to use netspeak on the forum. The mods don't like that.
or have a name of something normal, like your netname "king"translate it to another language and bobs your uncle (e.g kokuou, oumono, kingu, ouja, oushou, ousama) there all translation of "king"into japanese (toge= thorn in japanese)
Hive Fleet Fornye = a thorn in the imperiums side
3000 PTS all up and growing
" it's like the bad flat mate of the world" Dylan Moran on America
Hive Fleet Naughty Munchkin?
Hive Fleet Monkey Pop?
Hive Fleet Vanilla Rage?
Didn't like my suggestions? Neither did I. I think you should come out with something totally original, but yourself. That way, they'll always be your babies and not some borrowed name that ChaosNinjaDevilGodw00tultra3001 from LO came out with.
Don't worry about what other people think! If you hive has a stupid name, it'll hurt the opponent twice as much when you crush them!
also, check this thread out --> ME!
p.s. I think I might copy right all those Hive names heh heh.

1) think of your favourite film, actor, ice cream flavour, anything, and try to base it off that.
2) think of a particular strong/fierce sounding word you like, and look up the latin/greek/hebrew alternative for it.
3) one friend of mine has painted his tyranids a green/brown scheme - he says they remind him of mint cornettos, so he is naming them after tha latin word for mint.
just a few idea, good luck in choosing.
Another thing that might help is to think of your hive fleet's name in conjunction with its fluff. After all, the name is not something your fleet gave itself, but was given to it by its first Imperial witnesses or victims (unless you want to give it an Eldar-, Tau- or Ork- sounding name!). Imperial names tend to Latin, mediaeval bestiary or biblical references for that chunky gothic feel. The Perseus Project (Google it?) has an online English-Latin dictionary/lexicon that you might find useful here.
For example, the Hive Fleet designated 'Umbra' by the Ordo Xenos is a splinter of the Kraken meta-fleet. It was uniquely identified and so called by Inquisitor Kralst on Ederos III, since its primary assault on that world was a rain of spore mines so numerous that they blotted out the light of Ederos-star itself.
Your hive's colour scheme might provide more inspiration, or you can use the fluff to help decide on your colour scheme. Umbra, for example, might be done primarily in subtly blended shadowy, darker colours with sudden flashes of bright colours under exoskeleton, in eye sockets etc.
Hive Fleets are named after big scary monsters, behemoth, Kraken etc.
Pick a big scary monster from Canadian mythology. OK i've heard of Sasquatch and Wendigo, surely there a more inspiring local name. From Irish mythology I have Hive Fleet Fomoracht and Hive Fleet Nucalamhe. Since Irish stuff sound Eldary maybe I have 2 fleets that devoured Craftworlds or Maiden worlds when first encountered by the Empire. (maybe the Eldar warn the empire of these fleets in an effort to get the Empire to fight their battles for them, and the names the eldar give them stick).

To try to come up with a name can be hard. The names Tyranid and Hive tyrant themselves comes from dinosaurs.
Back in the old days of first edition 40k the brief the games developers recieved for the Tyranids was six legged dinosaurs in space.
As far a I can tell they used the name of the Tyranosaurus rex to get the names Tyranid and Hive tyrant. Tyranosaurus rex translated means tyrant-lizard king. As Tyranids live in hives it was a small step to Hive tyrant. The name Tyranid itself being a reference to tyrany.
Try to copy this by taking scary or nasty words and changing them. Developing and using your fluff is also a good idea. You don't have to say hive fleet and stick a name in there if that opens any options for you. My hive fleet isn't hive fleet anything but is called the Slaver hive. This is because in my fluff it makes extensive use of cortex leeches and will behave in a way towards other Tyranids similar to slaver ants.(
