I wanted to do yellow and black, or red and black, but was wondering if anyone has seen an army that alternated colors on the carapace (I mean an army that looked real good!).
I test painted a small section of carapace, but I'm not sure if it works or not (the end product will be painted about 10x better, keep in mind). I used Bleached Bone an White on the body, seems to fit with Black and Yellow ok. I'm jst really unsure about my carapace idea
I can't say that I have ever seen it done that way before. So IMO go for as it would be something unique though you may want to try it on one of you smaller models though metal one's are easier to strip so you know what will look best for your guys.
Is it me or does any other necron player get annoyed when they see people saying "Necrons eat souls". How is that even possible as souls are part of the warp and necrons want nothing to do with it? Eh probaly me just me being picky.

Someone on LO has done something similar, maybe you could look at his tyrant or ask him for tips? http://www.librarium-online.com/gall...hp?i=3756&c=42
You call those cheap implants boobs?
They aren't boobs, they're lies!
If you're going to do banding on the carapace I'm not sure the precise colours are the concern but how they are used, within your favourite colours of course. I can think of three options.
First is contrasting this would be the black and yellow. This effect is very striking but if you eventually decide you don't like it, it will be in your face. And a with a contrast like that you will either love or hate it, never simply like or never mind it.
Second is to use colours that complement each other. Warm greens and browns are a good example. Together they will be pleasant to look at but there will be nothing distinctive and it won't stand out. This may make all the effort seem rather pointless.
Third is to be subtle. This means colours that look almost the same. Using bleached bone beside bleached bone mixed with white is one. Black beside black mixed with darkangels green is another. The effect of this is it is hard to see but it is still there. This will make your swarm seem to have more to it than is percieved at first glance. It works especially well with black or white as they will at first seem to be colourless.
thanks for replies, I will try the black and yellow for real and see how it looks, I'll post pics when I'm all done
I wouldn't give up on you're original idea.
I think it would be good, but I would make it a fair bit darker.
Me no like light carapaace.
Hay there, I used the two colours black and yellow for my Tyranids and it has worked out well.
I choose the Kraken Tyranid GW hive fleet colour scheme, the one with the red and back armour and brown a bleached bone body, but I decided that I would swap the red for my favourite colour yellow,
Some people at GW, manly the staff tell me that I should hight light my carapace armour but I didn’t know how to start and thought my painting techs was good enough.
Now that I have seen yours its look more detailed, unique and more embracing, especially the yellow armour plate.
Too bad I have varnished my models already.
Maybe like the others have said that the body could be a bit darker, because I can see it myself that yellow and white might not be a good eye drawer.
But if you say it fits, then cool, go with it, its your hobbie and your models it is all up to you.
Keep up your testing.
Its looking gooood.:yes::yes: :yes:

<------ did you notice my picture? its a mass of green goo.
I have noticed that every one in my local store uses dark colours, like *dark angles Green* for the armor [*hint*] and *scarb red* [*HINT HINT*].
so what i do is for every thing *BIG* like any thing bigger then a gaunt or ripper then i dry brush a brighter colour. for things like metal..and only metal. i do a streak of bolt gun metal down their armor and i high light the dark angles green with like..snot green.
Try to think of something differnt..like what some one said white n yellow. or a bright green and black.. that would b cool!Originally Posted by red_talon

I was actually thinking of doing something similar, black and orange carapace, or black and scab red if the 1st one looked a lil too hallowen-y. and i hadnt quite decided on the skin, maybe scorpion green. will either look very indimadating or like circus on acid. and that tyrant is stunning AJ :w00t:
OK, I went with it, here he is half-done, don't know why the body came out bluish, must have been the flash, it's Khaki highlighted with Elf flesh and then Elf Flesh/Skull White, carapce is maybe too subtly highlighted, both the black and yellow sections have no less than 4 highlights, oh well...
what do people think of the scheme in general?
