Welcome to Librarium Online!
I'm sure I'm not the first to have thought of or to have tried this; its a way to get the most out of all the parts included with your Destroyer Lord. I've used magnets to allow me to switch back and forth between the weapons and wargear options that come in the D Lord box.
I used a 1/16" magnets and a 1/16" drill bit to make the seat for the magnets. They are held in place with super glue.
Here are the arm options with the magnets in place.
Here are the weapon options (Scythe and SoL).
I had to use two magnets due to the extra weight.
Here are the two sides of the Destroyer. You can see where I placed the magnets to coorespond to the magnets on the weapons. You have to make sure you keep the + and - in mind or the magnets will repell the weapons instead of holding them. I marked the one side of each magnet with a marker to keep things straight.
The other side only needed one magnet as the non-weapon arms are lighter and can be held in place with just one.
Here is the same D Lord model with different weapon and wargear configurations.
I plan on making another lord on foot and putting magnets in his arm sockets so they can share parts. This was a very easy modification to the Destroyer Lord. I was suprise how well things fit together and how quickly I finished this process (it only took about 45 minutes). As you can see from the pics, the magnets are almost invisible. This will save us from having to buy extra models just to have different weapons configurations available. Happy Modeling!
Not that the lord has many weapon configurations anyway....
Still that is some nice work, it at least makes it easier if you want to change the arms around for coolness.
It's not just for coolness. I don't know about your gaming group be we are hardcore about WYSIWYG. If it's not on the model, you don't have it, even if you paid the points. This configuration allows me to use any of the options included in the Destroyer Lord box. I didn't have to choose between the Scythe or SoL or, weather or not he'd be carrying a Res Orb. I can just swap out arms at any time to suit any need.
I'm actually doing the same thing with my Heavy Destroyers... I magnetize both the gauss cannon and heavy gauss cannon and switch as necessary. Altough I dont dril the magnets, I just superglue them.
This is a great idea!Originally Posted by boreas

In the name of god impure souls of the living dead shal be banished into eturnal damnation. Amen.
Wow... that is really, really cool (and useful!). If only I didn't already build my lords. Kudos man, it looks great.
