Welcome to Librarium Online!
Ok, I just started Necrons and so far I'm 4-2-1, which is pretty good in my eyes as I play in an experienced gaming club. However, one of my friends plays a power gaming IW list min maxed and all, and it's a tough nut to crack. We recently played 1500 points and I got owned. I took: 10 Destroyers, 10 Scarabs, 1 Lord with ResOrb, 30 Warriors, 10 Flayed Ones. He got first turn, killed all but 3 of my Destroyers with Lascannon fire, great there goes 350 points... and the game goes downhill from there. This isn't a battle report so I won't go into detail but he had 3 squads with 1 Lascannon and 1 Plasmagun each, 1 Defiler, 1 Basilisk, 1 Las Pred, 5 Oblits and an Infiltrating CC Squad of death with a tooled out Lord, Lieutenant, Aspiring Champion...etc with 7 CSM's as fodder. Options I have: Besides the stuff I mentioned that I took I also have 2 Monoliths, a Destroyer Lord, 6 Wraiths, a few more Destroyers, 5 Heavy Destroyers, 30 more Warriors (60 total), 5 Pariahs, 20 Immortals, another foot Lord, 5 more Scarabs (15 total), 1 Deceiver, 1 Nightbringer, 3 Tomb Spiders. God I love Ebay. Anyway, I have some flexibility but I'm really kind of cramped for what to do here. I'm not worried about cheese because, c'mon, he's IW, they are the living embodiment of cheese. So, gimme your ideas, he likes 1500 so for that point level. Thanks, cheers.
Well you could alwayse use weighted dice!!:shifty:!! Oh, wait, that's cheating...
If I were you I would make the most out of any cover you can, given there is some avalible.
Also you should give the lord a vod, and maybe tele the immortals or the destroyers (which ever you are using in your army at the time, they both unleash a wall of gauss and sonce you have several destroyers, they can get a great deal of your opponent killed quickly

Sounds like you're playing with very little terrain. That many lascannon shots shouldn't be possible.
And over there we have the labyrinth guards.
One always lies, one always tells the truth, and one stabs people who ask tricky questions.
Yeah, that game was on a desert map with only a few level 2 hills as terrain, ouch.
Well their seems to be your problem geez. Fight on a map with a little more terrain and a little less biased on him instead. Either way you probally should drop the flayed ones as they won't do much against them. So instead get some immortals and a VoD lord so you can drop fairly close to his artillery and blow them sky high. Some H-destroyers probally would be good espically against his oblits. Use the scarabs as tie up units for his units that are most threatning. I would think about getting a D-lord but you will deffinatly need a lord to stay with your warriors with that much str 8 ordance flying around.Originally Posted by Cmac2786
Is it me or does any other necron player get annoyed when they see people saying "Necrons eat souls". How is that even possible as souls are part of the warp and necrons want nothing to do with it? Eh probaly me just me being picky.

Pariahs will hepl if you know how to use them. HDs will take out the tanks. How many pys of Necrons do you have in total
Pariahs are not worth taking against IW. They are one of the few armies that can throw enough T5 marine killing power at them.
To specifically fight IW you will want to lose the flayed ones and possibly the scarabs.
Taking a monolith is a good idea since it can deep strike thus -
1) rape his gunline with fire
2) take away his biggest strength - range
3) keep your 'necron' units alive
Even with lascannons, a monolith doesn't go down easy and since tank hunter's doesn't work anything else bar lascannons is going to have SERIOUS trouble stopping it.
10 destroyers is probably too many, drop each squad down to 4 strong (4 is the best number for effectiveness vs points).
Dropping the flayed ones and 2 destroyers gives you a monolith and 45 points spare.
You could also drop the scarabs and get some heavy destroyers in there, but I dunno, IW you probably own them pretty quick.
Of course you could do immortals and VoD lord, apeear next to a squad and hose it down with fire.
A risk with that is any nice pie plates (i.e vindicator) will be the bane of your existance, but it is a damn powerful tactic.
Yeah necrons vs iron wariors are those once in a great while games where either one side destroyes the other or there is like one model on the game table at the end and its usually a no armed dreadnought

i play iron warriors my self and they do a very good amount of shooting but for necrons get your lord the orb thing then put it in close combat or next to a tank and boomb the tank is gone if has low armour.
Necrons are a very hard arny to baet guy probably has good ttactics!
Welll...if he ahs an infiltrating CC squad of death I would suggest maybe surpising him with the Deceievr one game. if they infiltrate they likely won't be able to get away from teh C'tana nd he will rape them, and don't forget he'll make quick work of Oblit's as well.. Furthermroe he will draw some of that lascannon fire away from everyone else. A lith' will be a great investment as well.
How you fit these into your army is up to you but considering his army either or both are highly recommended.
