Welcome to Librarium Online!
Hi! Do you guys use Kroots at all? Or just Tau themselfs?
I myself use just the Tau. I dont like the Kroot cuz they got crap armor. To me, its all about shootin' and armor. And Tau got a save which just satisfies me. Yeah I think Kroots are pretty bad but thats just me. I almost never get into CC anyways so I'm happy without the ugly brutes.
Cool. So I shounld just get Fire Warriars?
It doesnt depend on me about the input. It mainly depends who you fight most. So... if they are like 'nids, orks or space marines/daemonhunters, get kroot. I think there good for holding off the enemy and shooting them with heavy weapons or pulse carbine/rifles. Assault weapons are good against CC type of armies.
I will be fighting Black Tempilars mainly.
I personally think that one squad of kroot can't hurt. If they get to a forest they're worth twice as much as they cost you. For 7 points a model they're great, even without a save. I've never tried a Shaper though, seems like a waste, I'd rather just get 3 more Kroot...
Try the Shaper. Trust me one this one.
Play a game that's a little bigger than you usually do, and field the Shaper with the upgraded Kroot. The difference, particularly in assault, is amazing.
There's also the Shaper himself, who can contribute a potential five attacks to any melee he gets himself stuck into.
Also: the Shaper can, for a handful of points, pack a Pulse Rifle onto the board. The chances of it happening are slim, but the look on your opponent's face when a KROOT kills his Razorback/Rhino/Landspeeder/Raider/Etc. is worth the cost.
And now, onto the topic:
Templars have some nasty special rules, but you can twist them back on the Templars if you're good.
Foremost among these is the "Fall Forward" thing. Normally that terrifies people (other than Nids, BAs, Sisters and Necrons) because it brings all that choppiness closer to them. However, if you're clever about it and you remember that you're wounding him on a 3, luring him into your massed guns by breaking him can be very effective.
Against them, I would reccomend taking a suitably juicy unit of Kroot and then dropping them into the biggest patch of woods on the board. Use them to pin down enemy units and pull your lines into a Refused Flank formation while he chews his way through the Kroot (at seven points a model, it's acceptable losses) -and then your Battlesuits and Hammerheads (you DO have Hammerheads, right?) smash into him from the other direction.
Also to remember is their Acolytes, who aren't quite as good. I believe their shortcomings also include their save, which I remember as being 4+ Carapace. Missile Pods will bypass that with ease.
As for the Champion... meh. If you want to win the game, paste him with a Rail. If you want to have some fun, get him stuck in with the Kroot.
What about that rule where he can go 1 on 1 and take down your whole squad?
I guess if your fightning SM get 2 kroot squads of 16. That'll make him *****ed off. Cuz then you can lay it o him with the godly nice tank, the Hammerhead Gunship.
I personally do not field kroot in my army. Then again I do not own any kroot, nor have seen them used. However I do believe in some instances they would prove to be a very valuable part of your army, they unlike the average fire warrior has the ability to defend themselves in close combat. Mainly I think it depends on the type of army you are using. I myself am a very shooty army, with a few very mobile hard hitting units. Like the awesome Hammer Head (Just gotta love that tank)
No the pefect face on your opponet is when deathwing (the all termy DA army) leader and 3 other termies are in combat with a full squad of fire warriors. Now the leader kills a ton of your men, and the power fists are going to beat your ass when they go. However, a act of god happens and your firewarriors (by the loss of their comrades) score an amazing three wounds on the leader. Then, in another act of god, the termies two plus armor save fails him three times and the leader goes down. That is a priceless moment to see, a 230 pt leader with force sword and termy armor took down by a 12 pt model with a ws 2.
