Does anyone else out there have trouble using Raiders or Ravagers in games minus their flying stands due to legal reasons? These spindly brittle plastic spikes seem to break just by looking at them and although I am not looking for a physical fix I am garnering information on how to handle the legality of using them without said elevated platform.
Thoughts and feelings?
P.S. the best fix I have used to date is to drill out the small hole in the bottom of the raider to accomodate a slightly larger brass tube that is long enough to reach the inside top of the vehicle and epoxy in place. The tube inside dia meter is just large enough to be seated down over the smaller plastic spike at the top of the stand and rests on the much stronger and thicker main rod of the stand. No more snapped stands!
When I put a raider on a stand, I usually use a lump of greenstuff. You place the lump on the small hole under the raider, and take a wet (very important!) stick from a flying base and stick it into the hole through the greenstuff. Then you let the greenstuff dry, and you´ll now be able to insert a flying base into the hole, and remove it again when you have to transport it. Oh, and should the flying base break you can just buy a new one... no permanent damage done there.
I went ahead and enlarged the hole on the Raider so it sits on the large part of the stem instead of that tiny tip part.
I enlarged the holes only large enough so the raider comes down over the stem but the bottom blades of the Raider dont hit the stand base. So far I have good luck and have only broken 2 stands where the stem meets the base (instead of where the stem meets the raider).
Just remember that if you make the hole to large then the raider will "bottom out" and it will rest on the blades (depending where you put those large raider blades).
Other than that it looks like its skimming rather than flying.
Thanks for the replies, all great stuff! But what about the legal ramifications of fielding these vehicles without their stands? Have you run into any problems so far in official games and how did you solve them?
I don't use stands at all, it's easier to place a Raider on uneven terrain that way. No one has ever commented on thier legality, in or out of a tournament.
