i personally use four hounds so that wen the kroot do win a cc they get to finish off the cowards. for the point cost i like em. do you guys use them.
i think the krootox is a joke
i don't use any kroot at all, just due to the fact that they haven't got an armour save unless bought, and that they usually get the crap kicked out of them in cc neway. Im sure u've found a great way to use them, but i haven't. I'd rather spend the points on something more usefull. Hounds i actually like, pitty can't use them by themselves
Not sure if the 'release the hounds' is all that good as it doesn't actually help you WIN the combat. But I think they can be pretty handy with their better initiative up at the front of the unit.
They're pretty good at blunting an assault from I3 assailants and at least give you a few bites against I4.
All in all, not bad for the points but I wouldn't build a plan around them.
Also, it's totally lame that they're fast attack choice, Drones or PFs are a far higher priority for the army. Hounds rarely get a look in.
Do the things
I have yet to use them, but I for one like the cheapness to performence ratio. You really want them to get into CC...they are monsters...they are faster, chase your butt after you lose better...and they should be the first ones to go I think if you get shot at...unless you are planning to charge next turn or something. Anyway they are very good for the amount of points. I would have to disagree with you with the Krootox...I really like them, they are strong, and they have more attacks and they have a good toughness...just give those strength 6 and higher weapon hits to the regular kroot. They have a big gun to help them deal with a lot of things too...for 50 pts...they are really good in close combat! Tis a shame that they take up a heavy slot...they should allow you to take more krootoxs for the slot...and hounds for the fast slot...
kroot hounds are very nice but it all comes down to the points they are much cheaper them PF or drones. The other thing is that in close combat they are basically another kroot with higher I and they chase you. But overall even if your not going into close combat they can "add" a wound to your kroots. I would rather lose a kroot hound then one of my kroots that can shoot 24 inches. They are just very good no matter what you do with them for the points at least.
Never found very much use for the krootox. Much rather have another crisis.
Kroot hounds are definately spiffy, and I would include a couple if my army involved any kroot (which it doesn't at the time).
hounds are the best kroot IMO but krootox suck ballz.
Not keen on the Krootox at all. Too pricey (both in £ and points) and limited use on the battlefield. And it takes up a Heavy Support slot FFS.
Although I havn't got any hounds yet, I may get three or four soon. I like the idea, although they don't add much to the punch of a Kroot troop. Shame the hound minis are a bit poor though.
Ryan Dancey, Vice President of Wizards of the Coast, believed that TSR failed because of "...a near total inability to listen to its customers, hear what they were saying, and make changes to make those customers happy." Are you listening, Games Workshop ?
Are kroot hounds metal or are the plastic?

personally i dont use any kroot in my army (even yough it isnt even led by commander farsight). I just dont feel that the kroot fit in with the rest of the tau army.
Its as though when games workshop developed the Tau they said "Wow, these guys suck more in cc than we planned on, lets throw in some random barbarian aliens that like cc and then like to eat the dead enemies.
just my opinion though
