Right if you liked the movie terminator this is the army for you.
If you like being able to bring your fallen troops back to life then this is the army for you.
If you like having the best basic stats in the game but hate marines then this is the army forr you.
If you like it when your basic trooper destroyes a land raider then this is the army for you.
If you like an unstoppable tank and ultra powerful special characters this is the army for you.
If you like sci fi this is the army for you.
If a limited amount of unit choices doesn't bother you then this is the army for you.
If you like to have a fast moving/teleporting army this is the army for you.
I think that summs it up.

But seriousely, manreaper42, you need to tell us which army you play as your 1st so we can tell you what will be different!
The average Necron Warrior is tougher than some armies' elites, so you shouldn't come into any unexpected surviveability let-downs. Necrons are a bit slow, however, with a low I and only ONE vehicle choice, so bear that in mind if your 1st army was Armored Company (hard to imagine, but it happens). All necrons with gauss weapons (almost everybody) will eat tanks for lunch, even AV14 beasts like land raiders or leman russ..es? Russ'? Russes? Whatever. On the other hand, Necrons are not very CC oriented. Most players I've known (and myself) regard the Necron CC units as poor choices, or support choices for when you have nothing else to take. Sad but true.
In summary, shooty as hell and tough, but lacking up close.
Thematically, Deek nailed it on the head with the whole Terminator thing. Just one look at the standard Necrom Warrior head and you should hear the Governator's voice in the back of your head There's aldso a hearty portion of Ancient egyptian/ mummy type stuff in the mix, with the scarabs and the whole "it came from the tomb" thing. NEcrons are often called the 40K Tomb Kings, but I refute that based on play styles. (
And finally, the C'tan are ancient star gods etc etc. so if you like cuthulu (sp.?), you'll probably have a bit of fun with the C'tan...
Hope this helps!
Point wise it is expensive but money wise it is cheaper. Your standard warrior costs 18 pts
Alright already. I'm sorry, I didn't mean to be too harsh, so sorry manreaper.
But I just get a bit annoyed with people who say, give me good army and don't use their initiative to find out something themselves. Mind you at I2, maybe he's ideally suited to the necrons snigger snigger
It happens in every force page. I just thing we should get Gojiratoho or outsider to write a beginners guide which is sticky and entitled, "thinking of starting necrons - READ ME".
Either way, sorry and I love you all .. apart from that guy peeing in the corner.
sorry just got back from the beach so i didn't have time to check the message. but i play chaos for my 1st army and was thinking of playing necrons i like the fact that they come back to life and there robots. oh and karmoon i did do some reseach of my own i just want to know a little more about them to make my decision i know theres probley alot of peolpe who ask "who is the best army" they should know thats there opinion and that every army has there own down side to them. like necrons they I2 thats pretty bad but from what i gathered from other peolpe is there like a starter armie but i'm not sure on that one so i'm not asking if there better i just want some details about them. by the way i cc and or a shooting army or both:yes:
Hmmm... There are those who call Necrons a 'starter army' They are tougher than Marines (same save, but Necrons get WB and so are quite forgiving by way of model loss, as opposed to orks where you just have to get used to them dieing. Necrons also have practically no upgrades except on the Lord, meaning beginners have an easy time creating lists that actually work with the rules. Finally, Necrons are really, really easy to paint.
So yes, a bit of a beginner army, but all you need to do for real tacticalplay is try out the units everybody says to avoid like pariahs (sorry Goji! ).
You say you play Chaos, eh? One thing you might miss in the transition is the options. There are no chapters of necrons, they are all the same. There are no Necron Powers, the C'tan don't effect your troop choice (yet). We also have only one troops choice, so get used to building and painting Necron Warriors. Necrons also lack psychic powers, but instead we get Pariahs to specifically beat the crap out of psychers .
There are many, many things Chaos can do playwise that Necrons can't, but there are some things Chaos can't do that Necrons can. Things like making an entire army that gets back up on a 4+, or taking down land raiders with basic troopers' weapons.
necrons sound like there are a really strong army. i don't really use phsyics a whole lot in fact i don't use them at all well not yet any way. my friends play DA, BA, Eldar, Orks, and Night Lords would necrons be a threat to them
