Welcome to Librarium Online!
This army composition came about after considering the sage advice "don't take too many dark lances as it will make the army unbalanced." Then I thought well why not analyse this and see if its is really true (wierd things can happen when my medication wears off!)
The whole point of this is to include as many dark lances as possible into a 1500pt army and make it work - Tau eat your heartout!
Here goes then:
HQ Drachon - Agoniser+ splinter rifle
Retinue of 5 warriors/2 darlk lances+ 3splinter rifles *(2 of these units)
Raider Squads - 5 warriors/2 darlk lances+ 3splinter rifles *(5 of these units)
Raiders have Dark Lances
Elites - 5 mandrakes
Heavy Support - 5 Scourges/4 dark lances+1 splinter rifle *(3 of these units)
This should max out at 28 of the dreaded dark lances for 1499 points. But before anyone critisises this as being gun heavy please stop to consider how this would actually play out in the field.
I intend to use the HQ"s as close up fire bases (move them into position closer straight away), the raiders are unmanned and move forward to take the brunt of enemy firepower, the warriors can roll forward in a leapfrog motion - one squad moving every second turn whilst the other stops and fires and the Mandrakes are a sacrificial unit there to bog down things like Carnifexes so I can reload the lances and fire.
There potentially could be 28 dark lance, 27 splinter rifle, 2 splinter pistol shots every turn with the mandrakes extra 5 shots coming on after turn 3.
The average kill ratio on marines is 0.5 per shot with a lance, that makes about 14 dead per turn and thats just from the lances! Armour would be annihilated completely and only indirect fire would be a problem.
Add to this 27 splinter shots, fleet of foot where needed and 15 scourges to act as rapid response.
I know this is extreme cheese and is a very much unbalanced force but what fun it is to use, try it out and see what happens.
Raider Squads may not have two Dark Lances. . .
Why do the survivors remain anonymous -- as if cursed -- while the dead are revered? Why do we cling to what we lose while we ignore what we still hold?
Name none of the fallen, for they stood in our place, and stand there still in each moment of our lives.

Oops, typo sorry, make that 1 per raider squad. I think that it still comes out to total of 28 lances though.
Can you field two Retinues? I thought 1 Retinue per HQ.
Yeah how would two retinues work? I am noob so he is probably right...
you can have 2 HQ choices, each can have a retinue. So if you have two drachons then you can give each 4 incubi and mount em on a raider that way you have two incubi raiders with a drachon in each.
Except that the retinue has to number 5+ so 4 incubi is too little.

Actually had the chance to try out this weird army on the weekend against Ultramarines and guess what, it didn't work too well. The main problem I had was small squad size and their attendant morale checks and the scourges got shot to hell and back straight after moving. That darn whirlwind paid for itself 5 times over with indirect fire - just could not take it out. Well can't say I didn't try!
It was just an example, I would never use 4 incubi, in fact I use 7 in eachOriginally Posted by Tenozuma
Good on ya for trying something new, although the results weren't too surprising. There just isn't enough cover on the table to save that many dark lances. (a 10 man sniper squad in rubble is a tough nut to crack)
