Greetings fellow Farseers,
I've been reading this forum as a guest for about a month now, deciding on be best course of action in reguards to choosing a race that best fits "me" After much reading of fluff on each race, I've decided that Eldar is the race for me. (Besides Eldar fluff rocks)
As far as experience goes, on a level scale of 1 to 10, mine's a -5. But I'm hoping that will change  I have yet to purchase the core rulebook, but that’s definitely something that I foresee myself acquiring in the near future. And start to amass troops after the rule book. I'm looking into 2 squads of guardians, complemented by 2 warlocks and a farseer, to be the backbone of my fledgling army. I look forward to share new insights and ingenious ways of using the Eldar with you all.
I understand that the Elder is one of the hardest race to play, and I understand that victory won't come easy if any at all during the start of my career. But that makes it all the sweeter.
Nice attitude to start with, dude!
I always try to encourage Eldar newbies to think like that.
You have a solid core there. While not the most impressive troops on their own Guardians are our best troop choice and add a vital Fulcrum to an Eldar force. Shuriken Catapults will scyth through Orc, Gaunts and Imperial Guard and with conceal (+fortune) they can be suprisingly resilient.
Now you have a choice to make. Do you want them to move quickly(fleet) or have a heavy weapon platform? Please don't take 5 guardians and a platrform. People will hate you, call you cheesey(and it doesnt really work all that well). This choice affects the rest of the army. Both are valid but different people prefere different set ups.
If you go with the platform, things like the Avatar, Wraithlord and War Walker can make good support, because they can keep up with the Guardians.
If you want your Guardians to Fleet the Avatar and Wraithlord cannot keep up. So things like Vypers and Falcons make better support.
Read the Tactica for advise, or better still, pick what units you think are cool and we'll give you advise on how to combine and support them. Never think in terms of single units with Eldar. Dont send one unit at one of his. Send Three. Never fight fair and use you mobility to overwhelm sections of his army at a time.
welcome to lo and the eldar race. that is great to start with. always look for people that are selling their army cause yyou can get good prices for great models. i would wait until the new dex comes out before you go for certain aspects and such. ( read the rumors posts not all is true keep that in mind ) any questions we are here to help. peace
there is no art more beautiful and diverse as the art of death
Thanks for the warm welcome.
I went and picked up the core rulebook, as well as the Eldar codex. I know we're getting a new codex, but it’s still good reference I also got a box of guardians and a box of rangers, which I think are just awesome looking :w00t:! Though the coolest looking squad to me is probably the Swooping Hawks, but using a lot of them is unwise, maybe they’ll get some extra buff with the new codex.
As far as play style goes, I’ll most likely utilize Eldar mobility. I’m leaning towards a “Vanilla” army verses a craftworld one.
Again, welcome to LO and to the Eldar!
Thats a good backbone force you picked out and definitely a good start to playing Eldar. I too am still a bit new, but have some games under my belt. I can say that Eldar are awesome to play, and any victory you achieve will be all the more sweeter. And remember, if you don't win, you can still make the battle a costly, bloody affair for your opponent. Well, his army anyway. Please don't hit anyone
I started this year, and fore-went waiting on major purchases. Though I am happy with my decision, it still makes for a bit of tension for the new codex. Yours, however, are definitely solid, so have no fear there.
Keep up the good attitude, and may your command be a glorious one!
Arvan'drynn Craftworld - 15,000pts (deceased)
Tau - 2,000 points (atomized while on patrol)
While your waiting for the new Codex have you done the important stuff? Like decided on a paint scheme and a craftworld and background? While some may play Eldar to cheese out and an abusive powerlist, I haven't met them (well OK 1). Most play for the cool imagery. What hooked you?
I prefer a more indirect… Eldarish approach like removing their back license plate and letting nature take its course or at least the cops doing their job.Originally Posted by darquewingOh yes, got a color scheme! And I have been working on my first guardian model, which I named Bob taking my time on it, before I go all out and finish up the rest, but right now I’m lacking paint heh.Originally Posted by Gallowglacht
Craftworld and background fluff I’m working on, I’ll probably go with a theme from the FFXI Linkshell/Guild that I lead for close to 3 years now. I’m even coming up with a custom insignia for my troops and craftworld having a blast thinking up the fluff for this. Once I’m done with that I’ll let you know if you’re interested in reading it. I’m aware that we’re not allowed to post links to other forums on here, so I won’t post a link to my personal forum here so PMs would do.
As far as hook is concerned, mainly one of my buds plays Tau. After 2 years of persuasion, I finally said what the heck, and did some research on races. I even went out and got Warhammer DoW to get a better understanding of the races and their general feel.
Yeah I'm excited about it.
