the only time i ever played against Necrons, i assulted him with genes and hormagaunts. i had him all tied up in close combat, but then down came the Monolyth. It sucked all his Necrons out of close combat and then he gauss drilled the B' jesus out of me. how do you beat an army that can suck their dudes out of CC?

I play both necrons and tyranids and so necrons get there We'll Be Back(from now on know as WW the need squads close togetter and they usually are close enough so that you can assault both with one squad so they can pull only one out of combat (Per Monolith) or have two different squads assault two different necron squads so they can only pull one out Per monolith if he has two monoliths then assault 3 squads and so on...
Lots and lots of warpblast's are your friend against liths...1 or 2 venom cannon carnis are also pretty usefull...just keep in mind the necrons lack lots of ap2 weaponry so some MCs with 2+ saves are even harder for the necron player to deal with, than you dealing with there liths.
Also if you get into CC with crons, be aware of outnumbering them with hormies and stealers and the losing the assualt modifers to there Moral tests, Crons cant warp out of a CC if they fail there moral and get wiped out in a sweeping advance :shifty:

He's right about the 2+ saves the only AP1-2 weapons the necron have are on the monolith ordnance (only the center spot) and the heavy destroyers wich are bout expensive (money and points) and the later is relatively rare and the first scatters and has only 24" range. I played my Necrons VS my Tyranids my tyranids phased out my necrons but before the necrons lost a singe model all that was left with the tyranids were two Hive Tyrant and six Carnifexes witch in the end only 1 Hive tyrant dies and the other one lost 1 wound but the sad thing is... I used 150+ models...
Necrons really don't like psychic scream. Get 3 thropes with scream, a tyrant with it... already -4 to leadership. If you beat them in close combat, with under half and outnumbering modifiers, you can have their leadership go from 10 to 4 easy enough.
Running them down after they break is the best way to go to get a phase out.
How do shock units like raveners and lictors work against necrons?

I find rending raveners good, often they can easily get a 2nd turn charge blocking vital cc, their high initiatieve and numbers of attacks means they will often take down a sqaud, their also excellent in taking down fast unit like destroyers.
Lictors depends if there is scenery on the table if he's kind enough to move close enough to it.
I had few games against necrons. Some good some bad. I think the key is get there as fast as possible and getting into cc. He can only bring one out with each lith. Also the lord can used viel to get another one out if he is attached to it. But if you can engage several units then he can not pull them all out. First time this happen to me was with my hormagaunts he port out and shoot the living hell out of them.
Do not get fancy and try to out flank him. It failed for me . Just go straight for him through all that fire. I usually target his destroyed first. Simply because of 2 thing not that many of them and they have 3 shots apiece can do some real damaged to you.
The lord doesn't have to be joined to the squad he veils. Just one within 6" of him at the start of the movement phase is all.
