Whats better a Skyray or a Devilfish with Seeker Missile if your gona use them as along rang missile barg?
well..the skyray. you can set it up right along your table edge behind cover where your opponent can't get to it and launch it's 6 seeker missiles as apposed to the devilfishes 2, which will be more into the combat as it will be transporting your troops. You can probably do both though. If you're launching them via pathfinders, just give thier devilfish 2 seeker missiles and you can have 8 seeker missiles in 1 game
And if your pathfinders (or whatever unit is shooting markers) get wiped from the board, and you still have seekers left, the skyray can use its' markerlights to launch the remaining seekers.
I would prefer the Devilfish because of the boost to squad mobility and use as a CC screen, plus it keeps a Heavy slot free and is required equipment for Pathfinders anyway.
Why didn't you include Pirahnas?
"My tanks have names, my men have numbers." -Col. Edmund Grahvess, 23rd Kronecker Prison Guard
Pirahnas could be very effective with it's seeker missiles. In combination with a fusion blaster, they can easily take out tanks or anything with higher armor
Can Devilfish only take 2 Seeker Missile? Did it use to be 4?
IMO the skyray with its on markerlight would be limated, 36'' range
Yes, Devilfish can only take two seeker missiles, and it did used to be four. I guess they lowered it because of the skyray. I would also think that the networked markerlight would be a 36" range because it follows the same rules as the regular markerlight, other than the unit shooting it can benefit from it. That would mean the skyray would become at least a bit vulnerable to get into range.
It's too bad the Skyray don't have an unlimited amount with Seekers. That would make it REALLY useful. But now with only 6 you have to choose your targets wisely. (I mean, what funktion does the transport compartment fill if there's no missiles in it?)
Of course other players would wine thair asses off, and we put out as many markerlights as we could to get as many seekers used as possible.
The Skyray have Markers wich not only enable it to launch seekers but also boost BS for other units etc. It have as though armor as the Hammerhead and may be quite heavily equipped with a good secondary system, SMS, which also don't need LoS (but so can the Devilfish).
The devilfish fills a lesser function in the game but can still fill the spot as missile carrier. It has weaker armor and no markers but none the less, you can "arm it with a squad of pathfinders" and set it on a hunting spree. Besides, in 4:th ED we get the Beacon with the Scout-fish wich is very good for deepstriking.
If you're thinking of buying one then you should get the Skyray, with it you get weapons for both Hammerhead and Skyray. (besides, you can always strip it of gunns and play it as a Devilfish.)
Last but almost the most important thing when you collect tau, DONT EVER GLUE YOUR WEAPONS ON YOUR CRISIS & TANK MODELS, use Magnets.
