ive always liked the eldar race and models but only recently after giving up the hobby and returning to it decided to build an army. i have brought the codex and i like alot of the models and so far have brought:
3 dire avengers (was thinking about using them as guardians to round up to 16)
a warlock on jetbike (was a tester for my painting scheme)
5 banshees inc exarch
2 dark reapers
a classic banshee exarch
1 warp spider and finally on ranger to test my paint schemes on i really need soe advice what to buy next to add to my army and any tactics for a new player plz reply
I would recommend waiting for the new codex to come out. Along with it will be new models. Thus you don't waste money on stuff that you can't or won't use with new rules.
Rumor is that Dire Avengers, the worst unit in the codex, will be 1+, or mandatory. So hold off for now.
But if your insistent, focus on guardians, that way you'll have a solid troop base to start with.
thanx alot any advice about getting wa\rp spiders or banshees or wud u wait? bt ty
Sure get Warp Spiders or Banshees, those aren't likely to change much with the new codex. Just remember, they are all metal, thus very expensive.
BTW, forgot to mention, Welcome to LO!
lol thanx yh they expensive bt my local shop sells second hand models half price so i claiming metals for £1.50 each!!!! including reapers lol avatar only £8 lmao u reckon that model will change with new models? lol thanx again
They may change the avatar model with the codex. The avatar is getting a major overhaul with the new codex as well, or so I've heard.
I've heard that they were going to do a new sculpt on the avatar. But the reliability of that is probably so-so. He's supposed to get ranged weaponry though, so it seems likely.
Warp Spiders and Banshees are probably a good buy right now.
The biggest things to hold off on, I would say, are loads of guardians, dire avengers ( new models coming out ), wraithlords ( new ones coming out look WAY different ), big seer councils ( probably wont need more than 10 warlocks from now on. ).
As far as tactics, I would read up on the Eldar articles under newbi guides and tactics and strategies. Keep in mind though, that some of this will change in the next 3 months. And of course, nobody is too terribly sure on how.
The basic tactics for Eldar are scoot and shoot. What we have that isn't tough is usually pretty mobile and/or a big damage dealer Exceptions now are Wraithlords/Falcons mainly. They both are very tough, do a noteworthy amount of damage. The falcon is quick too.
Two other big ideas for us are "pre-emptive strike" and "group effort". The best thing for the Eldar to do is hit first and hit hard. The best way to do this consistently is by "chunking" the enemy force. In the way of Napoleon, we are better off putting our whole army against a unit or two each turn, and whittling them down to nothing. When doing this try to keep your force only visible to what you plan to kill. This is the biggest use for our mobility. I think anyhow.
I've often set up my slow units in the center, spread out my mobile forces, and then switch to a refused flank on the first turn. This can irritate your opponent to no end, and will of ten let you deal with his army piece-meal. ( did I spell that right? )
Hope this all helps some.
