Welcome to Librarium Online!
I have no idea if there was a post on this but i find it hard to decide which.
here is what i know:
+ Can fire ordanance
+ Tought armor
+ Lots of Movement
+ Possible wargear combos
- One lucky shot and it dies
+Can take more than one shot to kill
- only gets 1+ to BS per marketlight (not a realy problem, railgun is twin-linked after all)
-little or no movement
while i currently have a Hammerhead, and am planning on getting a broadside or 2 i can't decide which one i woudl take if i could only take one..
so any ideas?
One lucky shot, and a Broadside dies, too... called Lascannons.
This topic has been done to death (try the Search function :yes, and it always comes out the same:
It's personal preference.
You've listed the pro's and con's, now you simply need to decide which you would rather have - the mobile Hammerhead, or the immobile (or mostly immobile), yet cheaper, Broadside?
It depends on the type of army list you are including them in and how you would be using them, etc.
One isn't better than the other - they are both used a little bit differently than the other, so, in the end it's up to you.
I like the Broadside better but I don't like its armor is kinda bad but rail guns are still better than Lascannons
I'll say that it will depend on how the rest of your army is. Since the hammerhead and broadside have different roles IMO. The hammerhead is good at killing hordes with the ordnance shot and good at killing HT good save models.
The broadside is good against a very vehicle heavy army or single models you simply need to kill and if you need a cheap railgun it works too.
So if you uses a lot of anti-armour suits then you will be better set with the hammerhead since it is better at killing hordes than the broadside.
I actually don't see the point cost of the hammerhead as being negative. It is actually cheap comparing to many other tanks and it have cheap upgrades most of the imba stuff is only 5 pts.
I'm using hammerheads mostly in smaller battles, but find broadsides usefull in battles on 2000+ pts since normally you won't face enough armour for them to be better than the hammerhead.
But I must agree with Lost Nemesis, this topic have been done so many times and really don't need to be answered just simply do a search on it and you will come up with all the answers you will need
Lastly I only have one thing to say WELCOME BACK LOST NEMESIS!!!! :w00t:
He's been back for like a week... >.>
Anyways, this topic has been done to death, ressurected, and done to death more times than god cares to remember...
I have both, I genereally prefer the Hammerhead, but I will use what ever suits my fancy for a battle. Mostly the Hammerhead due to it's mobility.
- 3+ to hit.. 33% chance to miss your shot ever turn. Miss one shot, wait for another turn .. and pray it doesnt get the lucky early retirement.
- Being a vehicle.. any glancing (not going to say penetrate), will put your 150 pt (minimal railhead) locked there for 1 turn.. chances are, the rest of the game if they decide to pump that shot into it every turn... being 13AR, it isnt hard... (chaos haovc squad with 4 auto cannon tank hunter veteran skills..).
- Also, being a vehicle of that size.. plus skimmer.. the risk of losing it on the first turn if you are not going first = 99%.
.. comparing those to the broadside...
+ 4+ reroll.. 25% chance to miss (or with targetting array.. 11% chance to miss).. more accurate for less point cost.
+ Giving it shield drones means your 125 pt broadside will be nearly indestructable at range. The chance of failing 3 lascannon shots at 4+ invulnerable = 13% (that includes being hit by a dead-on Basilisk barrage), and the chance of you failing that 2+ armour save 3 times.. ugh..
+ You do not need to hide your broadside if you equipped it with shield drones/generator.. quite a threat to all vehicles crossing it's path.
I only take Railhead if I am playing against mass infantry type of army.. like IG, 'nids, a few chaos chapter (like Alpha Legion, Nightlords), Eldar, Orks.. I never take both though.
Anima Tactics - try it out!
I like the hammerhead. Because it goes real fast o_o
Gloria Imperator, The Firstborn Stand!
- 2000pts Inquisition, 2000pts Vostroyans, 3000pts Vampire Counts, 1400pts Daemons, [WIP] 2500pts Death Guard
Why, thank you. ^_^ :tongue:Originally Posted by Arakiaz
nekochen, while you're right that the Broadside is more accurate and cheaper in points, it is worse at long-distance anti-infantry, and has horrendous mobility (if any mobility). This means that if the enemy avoids the fire lanes you place them in, then they will be wasted every time you move them to get a new fire lane. Hammerheads, on the other hand, can rearrange their firing lanes without sacrificing their shooting, making them very nice to have.
Plus, front AV13 and glancing hits (from Skimmers Moving Fast) as well as Decoy Launchers make the things pretty dang hard to take down...
Heh heh these two points make it very hard to take the rest of your post seriously.Originally Posted by nekochen
99% chance of losing a HH on your first turn, yep maybe on the planet delusion, the HH is probably one of the hardest vehicles to destroy in the game, and deployment and the range of the weapon make it very hard to even hit in the 1st turn. 99% heh heh ok thanks for that I needed a laugh.
13%, you do understand that a lascannon is AP2 so no armour save and a shield drone/gen is 4+ to pass that means 50% failure rate, now thats 50% failure rate for every save rolled so where in gods name do you get 13% from.
Also fail a save annd your protection has gone and your testing when you lose one which means running is very much a possibilitie and then you cant fire.
Lost Nemesis said it really, useless mobility, insta kills from one lascannonshot, expensive to protect (30pts for 2 shield drones/20 for a shield gen), but I do not actually agree about the points, the thing with points is it is more to do with just how much they cost its about what they can do and a HH with submunittion and solid shot is much more versatile and makes its points back in spades, Broadsides simply do not perform.
Than ks for all your help... i am going for a hybrid army so i think i will stick with the HH just because its more versatile..
anyway thanks for all your help..
