Welcome to Librarium Online!
I am thinking about loading up some war buggies with Kustom mega blastaz. Because they are blast weapons I assume you place the small template but am not really sure.
I thought it might be a useful anti SM unit, or even against light vehicles.
Cry Havoc and let slip the poodles of war
They aren't the most cheap or accurate of variants, TL Rokkits are better for SM/Light Tank hunting and Skorcha's suffice for most other things.
Every time you read this sig: a fairie dies!
I always try to field at least one squadron of "Buggy Blastas" every time my KOS takes the field. They are good examples of what an ork vehicle should be; risky, fast, powerful and scary. Nothing worries a Marine player more than a horde of 24" moving heavy plasmaguns!
The main problem with them is that they overheat. Every time you fire, you have only a 1 in 3 chance of hitting the target and a 1 in 6 chance of the buggy going boom instead.
At the end of a six round game, there is a good chance that every buggy will have overheated at least once! Then again, I think that this is typical Orky behaviour and laugh whenever they blow up. You should play Orks for a the fun of the game as much as the desire to win.
Kustom mega blastas work really well against highly armoured troops, such as terminators or Broadside Crisis Suits. The blastas are short ranged, but the small size and speed of the buggy should allow you to hop from cover to cover until you can get within firing range. A couple of lucky shots can vaporise an entire squad of termies.
If you tack on things like rams, grabbers, wrecker balls, spikes and stickbomb chukkas, you can also have great fun roaring round the board ripping into the back of tanks and overrunning infantry as well.
actually you would have a 1 in 12 chance of being destroyed on the glancing table, because you have to roll for to see what happens as well as actually have the glance happen. unless you're horrendously unlucky no more than one buggy in a squadron should die a game.
You have a one in six chance of overheating.
On the glancing you have a one-third chance of getting wrecked.
"...a swarm of mechanised locusts sweeping over the land, stripping it bare of resources, bringing death and destruction to anything that stands in its path. Emperor preserve us against the predations of these so-called Orkish cults of speed!" - Cardinal Nomura at the Conclave of Hessen
I don't mean to seem stupid, but I was under the impression that weapons on vehicles don't "get hot" in 4th ed.
I'm wondering about that as well.Originally Posted by trollzwei

oh yes, sorry about that, i forgot the open topped rule.
The Kustom Mega Blasta is the exception to the rule. It specifically states it does. Plasma Cannons and the such don't when on vehicles, but Mega Blastas do.
Much more Orky.
Oh, well, looks like we should all give our "maths-grots" a good kicking.
I do like using mega blastas though, as the only armour save your opponent gets are from invulnerables or cover - they are great against heavily armoured assault troops charging across open ground, especially as you can also use the buggies speed to keep your distance from their powerfists krak bombs etc .
By the way, if you take a pair of trukk mounted Bigmeks as HQ choices, and maybe a few Mekboy Deth Koptas, you have a good chance of repairing the glancing hits caused by the overheating mega blastas (and other enemy fire).
