Welcome to Librarium Online!
I am new to 4th ed. nids ( I had at one point a 1000 pt 3rd ed army, but it melted in my car on a hot texas day  )
I have heard it said from a couple of sources that genestealers are better at CC than leaping warriors (I have neither the cash nor the skill for winged warriors at the moment). Based on this understanding I was wondering if it would be better for me to take Warrior squads like the following.
Or would a better warrior squad be like this
Adrenal Glands- +1 I
Keep in mind that in the list I am thinking of I will have a flying tyrant, 2 squads of termagaunts, a squad of Hormagaunts, 2 squads of genestealers, 2 gunfexes, and a zoanthrope
So based on this list which type of warriors do you think would be most effective?
"I am the architect of fate!"
Well you can't realy compare a cc brood with a ranged one, since they are specialised at different things. But considering the list you have in mind I'd have to say the second brood.
Strange fate for your first army

Long ago there was something in me, but now that thing is gone,
I cannot cry, I cannot care, that thing will come back no more.

Well I think Genestealers work differently from Tyranid warriors in an assault. The Genestealers are not as tough as the Warriors and can fall back, of course thats unlikely. The Genestealers will provide you with more models because they usually cost less points and thier hand to hand abilities can include all the nice stuff that Warriors can get. In addition getting Genestealers into combat is usually easier.
The advantage of Tyranid warriors in an assault is the synapse psychic power. This ability can be use to keep the other Tyranids in line which is very handy if you use hormagaunts or Gaunts. When it comes to Tyranid warriors or Genestealers in an assault it really all depends on what you want and what you need.
I think out of the two broods you have there you should go with the second brood with leaping. In my opinion Tyranids of all kinds often work best when set a specific task. The first brood with the devourers may want to stay out of combat so they can shoot if they do this they will waste thier rending claws.
add adrenals for WS to the warriors, and you're set [with those rending attacks, you definately wanna make sure they hit]
Nids - 1150 pts (I'm poor, dont laugh)
im too 'fexy
im too 'fexy
im too 'fexy for my carapace, too fexy for my carapace . . .

I whuold definitly go w/ the second brood. the first brood would get a lot of shots, but they've got crappy gaurdsman bs. with the first brood you'd get twelve shots. 6 hits, then probably 4 or 5 wounds. marines will maybe lose one or two.
if you go with the second brood, you get twelve attacks, two of whitch should be rending, then probably four more hits, two wounds, and maybe they lose annother one but probably not. so usualy they'll get about the same ammount of kills but the secound brood is safe from shooting.
By the way, Damendred, Asmodean is gone. obey the Great Lord of the Dark, or your next.

the 2nd brood will work better, just add toxin sacs so they have a better chance of wounding with the attacks that don't rend the enemy. you don't really need to worry about AG for ws because your wanting the rending and not really worrying 'bout the other hits.
Yeah its all about the synapse, I use two units of winged warriors with rending and talons, their main job is to provide a broad synapse field of coverage, this allows my Hormies and Stealers to keep units tied up in CC (remember Stealers benefit from synapse just the same as any other Nid unit if in range of synpase), this allows the blocking of LOS and restricts the opponents shooting and movement.Originally Posted by Marvus
I know your not doing wings so give them leaping (you need the speed) and ext carapice and improved STR and INT, the WS is already good enough but the extra point of INT really works wonders and the extra STR helps with the rending against vehicles and allows a to wound roll of 2+ on most average tgh models. I really do not like shooting warriors, they seem under utilised to me and the combat warriors perform so well in CC with their superior stats and non insta kill. no brainer for me go for the CC option.
I don't wanna kick a guy when he's down.. but are Warriors actually usefull for anything if they're not rending flying bats out of hell (mmm.. meatloaf)?
They've got poor accuracy, they're a little fragile and they're really really slow unless they're flying.
