After I get the final units for my DA and Tau armies I'm looking to start one of the following: Chaos, Eldar, Necrons or Tyranids. I'm kind of leaning towards Tyranids but how good are they? How do you all use them? I know that they're a pretty CC army but isn't it suicide to send 60+ models into CC when they all have 5+/6 armor saves. What's the secret to a successful Tyranid army?
Statistically, tyranids are the most successful army. I remember to have seen a statistic which said that theyy win 56% of their games, more than any other army.
However, from a tyranid player's point of view it is not suicide to send 60+ gaunts into close combat - in the same way as it is not suicide for an IG player to have 60+ guardsmen. They die easily, but you can afford losses. On the other hand, they also pack a lot of punch.
For the points of ten marines, you can have 25 scythegaunts, which will have 75 attacks on the charge. 75 Attacks and 25 wounds compared to 10 attacks and 10 wounds. Marines might be stronger, tougher and better armoured, but there are a lot less of them...
The best way I have found to play as nids is to treat everything as expendable - from the gaunts to the Hive tyrant. it is how they are used fluff wise and it works surprisingly well in the game. the point is that if the enemy takes out 30 of the 60+ ganust on the way to him, he must have avoided shooting something else (IE GENESTEALERS/WARRIORS/TYRANT)
Dont worry about the saves, as numbers will counter any dice roll. Enought attacks and every space marine will fail his armour. Enough models and the save becomes inconsiquential.
Yes, Because if you watch other players trying to keep cirtain units alive you'll notice that if they're not heavy support they tend to end up being quite useless throught the game, its like ahve 10 terminators and avoiding combat unlike the nid player who is too busy getting as close as possible to have time to spend time keeping stuff alive, also in tyranids verse any army since the tyranid player is more intent on getting close to the enemy he/she(no discrimination ) that they cant keep stuff alive. and the other player can ya quick move the terminators back and then they become wasted, id say that "kris" is quite right.
With 'nids, it's best to get in the thick of it all ASAP. Although you might be wary of losing vast numbers of models, you can guarantee your opponent would rather you hid back and gave him chance to shoot at you on his own terms.
Tyranids are an army for the commander who enjoys taking risks.
lol, guess my 7 yr bro picked the right army then, little psycho
Wheres the fun if yer not taking risks?Tyranids are an army for the commander who enjoys taking risks.
Do ya mean gambling the whole game on one thing risks or the appear to be in total chaos kinda risk
When i play imp guard with one of me mates i get the impression that his army is in chaos(not that organised) anyone that sees the nids may think that that its a chaotic mass to get near to the enemy, but its not is it.
I still think nids are the most organised army in the universe. becuase say... no margin for human error... lol
