Hey guys, I recently played against a Tau army that made extensive use of the "Fish 'O Fury" tactic, and I saw how devastating it is. I was just wondering, could necrons pull the same thing off, but with a Monolith? I personally think it would be awesome, and a horrible surprise for your opponent. thoughts?
Doesn't really work because-
- The monolith is slow
- Its not disposable
- Getting that close is bad news for most necrons
- If it goes wrong you are in serious trouble, its not something that lets you cut your loses
Thats my take anyway.
Well, my thoughts on your problems are:
• You could Deep Strike the 'Lith, and have Warriors in Reserves.
• Chances are, by the time it come sin, the rest of your force will be almost halfway across the board, right where your 'lith comes in, so the opposistion shold have plenty of things to shoot at.
• That's why the Power Matrix and Veil of Darkness exist, to get Necrons out of CC.
• I guess you're right on this one [Not that you arn't on the other ones, I just have different views], but it sounds like a fun idea anyways.
Well, it is quite risky, but i sounds fun. Anybody else have any good ideas?
That's not really a ''lith o fury' it's more of a Daemon Bomb style, but even then, with only 1 unit of warriors coming in at a time, it wouldn't be horribly effective. However, 3 monoliths, 6 squads of warriors, and a C'Tan would be interesting.
C'Tan strides across the battlefield, soaking up fire, then the Liths deepstrike behind the enemy and drop warriors.
It'd be very expensive however.
Gareth is the person I try to impress when I convert and paint.
Yea, I guess you guys are right, not very effective after all. Still might be fun. Thanks for your feedback.
It works best when you bomb the lith in and use it as a bridge for FO that are nearby (or wraiths).
You suddenly have a rock hard tank in your lines with CC specialists leaping out of it and causing pain.
Ooh sounds fun, might have to try that with my CC 'cron list :shifty:.
Heh, I love bombing it in an watch as it gives me time for my warriors to come out and rapid fire rape a unit.
Yea, needless to say, the Monolith was half the reason I decided to start playing Necrons again.
While I wouldn't say it would be good for a FoF type attack, don't underestimate the sheer size of the monolith. Including the 1" no-go zone on all sides of it, you have an 8" obstruction for your opponent that you can both shoot and teleport through which just happens to be very hard to kill. I once played a bridge crossing mission where the objective was to cross a river- two bridges, both 6" wide. One of those bridges was blocked by my monolith for the whole game. The 'lith is great for stopping footsloogers in their tracks at choke points, leaving the stymied unit open to rapid-fire by a teleported squad.
Don't even get me started on the 'lith in CoD! :w00t:
Something that I've always wanted to do (but never will) is to use an evil 3 monolith list and have a floating wall in front of my Necrons, making assault nigh impossible on certain boards. Just think- 24" of obstruction!
