I am just wondering if anyone here has bought, or seen the Forgeworld Orca Dropship in person, and has taken a good look at the models it comes with.
I.e. the 24 Firewarrios at 60 dollar value.
6 XV88 100 Dollar value or more,
and the 8 Gundrones.
If the Models it comes with are good I am thinking of buying it. Thanks in advanced for anyone who makes my decsion easier.
It is indeed a beautiful model and I have seen one in the flesh, the problem is though the FW are seated models, so to use them out of the ship you would have to have another unit on foot to represent them, the fellow who owned the dropship had his solely for modelling purposes and had the XV8 suits exactly as they appear on the website pictures, bent kneed and posed to fit in the ship.Originally Posted by Chinka
I am not sure if you can pose the XV8's differently, if you can that would be a real bonus, the drones are detachable and usable but you would need to have them based on flying stands which makes them unusable in the model as the FW sit under the drone racks
I think £275 is a bit steep if you cannot utilise the models inside, but it is impressive, unfortunately I do not know the rules for the Orca (I refuse to pay £55 for the Taros book).
Hope that helps slightl, sorry I could not be more help on the XV8's unfortunaltely the guy who owns the Orca moved recently or I could have asked him for more info.
For the drons mount them on flying bases but don't glue so they can be seperated from them, that way you'll have more uses with them.
All I know is the Orca is the best looking unit in WH40k.
In my opinion that is

I don't think anythins FW makes is meant to be worth it, they're just cool units that look nice and add an interesting new element to the game.
As far as usefulness, An Orca Dropship and its contents can fill out an entire 1000pt list and the best part is the way units deploy from the thing. Won't go into detail for legal purposes, but it pretty much lets you go anywhere and adds some decent frepower while doing unit. I've proxied the thing a few times and it's fun to use. As for worth the money, I'd say no, but what in this hobby really is?
Blais's Paint Studio-Getting broken armies good soft scores since 2009
ha. not sure if im even allowed to say this, but no. its not worth it. infact, nothing in the WH hobby is worth what you pay. Thats why *I* ebay everything. People on ebay realize no one's dumb enough to pay those prices twice XD
E bays fine if you want stuff where you have no guarantee if parts are missing, or stuff thats painted, great if want no choice on your army colours, the new stuff is not much cheaper, I have bought stuff of e-bay three times, got one Leeman Russ with the main gun missing from the sprue, and a couple of grey knight terminator boxes for the grand saving of £5 over GW prices, but they took a month to get to me, I gave up cos I dont like the uncertainty, and please dont mention the reputaion.Originally Posted by otahak
E-Bays overated and I can get GW stuf from independent stockists cheaper.
I think anything you get from FW you have to get cuz you think it's super-cool, not "worth-it". That's why I spent ~$60 on a GK dreadnaught torso, or the Shas'O R'Myr model. The Orca looks good, don't know if I'm so impressed with the rules. I bought the tetras, too, and those were never worth the points, but that was pre-new-codex.
One Exception: All the Brass-etch sprues are awesome and very cost effective, and worth it.
