Welcome to Librarium Online!
Hi i am starting a mech army, currently i have 9 stealth suits, 2 crisis suits, 3 full fire warrior squads, a sniper team, a devil fish, 6 path finders, 12 kroot, 8 gun drones and a hammer head what should i buy for my next few purchases i have a very steady income so it will be easy for me to purchase them aswell.
Any help will be apreciated!
I have almost the same loadout... but I have more Crisis battle suits... a total of 9 so far.
My commander is fitted with both the special weapons (Airbursting Fragmentation Projector and Cyclic Ion Burster) and deals some heavy damage.
I also have a considerable amount of shield drones. My 2000 point army consists of: 2 Commanders with 2 Bodyguards each (so 6 Crisis suits), 4 Units of 6 Firewarrior Squads, 1 Unit of 2 Crisis suits, 2 Units of 3 Stealth Units, 1 Unit of 2 Sniper Squads and 2 Units of 1 Broadside (so I could make them both Shas'vre with Advanced Stabilizer and HW Multi-tracker for the move and fire option and to shoot both Railgun and Smart Missiles in the same time for ultimate firepower).
As for drones, my army set up has 18 Shield Drones, only 2 Gun drones and 2 Marker drones.
My shield drones I have made from regular Gun drone parts and attaching shield generator parts from the crisis battlesuit sprews onto the bottom. Its a very easy conversion and looks the part. I have said shield drones attached to pretty much everything to get the 4+ Invulnerable (with exception of the firewarriors).... The Gun drones provide 2 extra wounds to my secondary command squad, thats all. Sure these costs 290 points, but it keeps the crisis, stealth, and broadside units alive very nicely... so many ap 3 weapons out there... and the above units are costly... i think its worth it... The 2 marker drones are attached to the Fire warriors.
Your army and style may be completely different, especially with a hammerhead involved. Also having more markerlights/marker drones can make a hell of a difference to the outcome of the game with regard to pinning and general effectiveness of shooting.
Definately get some Broadsides, just one or two will do nicely and provide a sufficient destraction. I suggest you put Shield drones with these, as their 2+ save will cause the enemy to fire lascannons or the like at them. They are not very manuverable so need the 4+ invulnerable imo... Good luck and have fun.
I am looking more at 1500 point range as it is the regular for my club so any ideas for that?
I love stealth suits and on my crisis suits i normally take plasma rifles missile pods shield gen or targetting arrays HW MT, HW TL, HW DC and one shield drone or gun drone for pinning purposes, i ostly play marine based armies (crons chaso and marines) and also KoS orks that has a 2nd turn assault that i can barely ever stop. I would like to take at least one hammer head in my mech army list!
Me, I run a mostly mech army, except I don't really use FW, cuz I think they're not worth it in DF. I tend to have 6 FW just sitting on the ground. Funny enough, the enemy always shoots them to pieces first, as if I cared.
If you have 9 stealths, you might as well get up to 12, so you can field two full squads. You'll probably want 4 more Crisis suits, inclusing a comander, though it's not guaranteed you'll use them all. You probably want at least one more box of kroot, so you can field a full squad of 20, but under some circumstances, even more kroot can be devatating. You'll need either 2 more Hammerheads (might as well buy the sky-ray box, though I do not like it), or one Hammer-head and two or three Broadsides. (I personally think taking Broadsides in a mobile list is fine, though others don't. They'll survive at least the first 2 turns, which is when you need them, and the give the enemy something to focus on, which makes herding them easier)
A mech list does not need Broadsides, not very mobile are they.Originally Posted by The Black Sword
You have 9 stealths so I would do as Prom says and take 2 full squads (basic squads).
2 HQ shas'Els (helios multi or Fireknife multi with targetting arrays on both set ups).
Take another XV8 (lone suit) in the other elites slot (possibly twin linked plasma and TA or twin linked fusion and TA.
Take two units of 12 FW with devilfishes with decoys.
Take two Hammerheads with railgun, BC, multi and decoys.
I take a Skyray nice mobile ML platform with TA and multi, but you could take a unit of pathfinders.
With two hammerheads, two unitis of stealths and the mobile FW units you should have no trouble with Orks (submunnitons cripple Ork units and open topped vehicles and stealths really hurt em to).
If you take the above you will have a list that can take down any list even MEQS, check out my 1500pt list in the list forum, its a GT list I am creating and sounds very much like what you want (but it does have Kroot but you could swap these out)

Like I said, I think it's just fine. Typically, the enemy can't get to your Broadsides until after all their tanks are dead, at which point it's not so important. Additionally, they make a good bait to draw stuff into a fire trap, even all the way back on your board edge. Nothing else quite manages to do that like a team of Broadsides.
I am indeed one of those OTHERS and proud of it.:rolleyes:Originally Posted by Sir_Prometheus
Puuleeeaase give over 'all their tanks are dead' come on be serious, Broadsides are not that good, I have played against Broadsides and I have played with broadsides and they are not that effective that quickly, blocked LOS, tanks in cover, tanks moving, skimmers with the skimmer rule, units shooting the BS or fast units forcing them to move etc etc etc etc, BS never destroy all the enemys tanks before they are under pressure, and if by some miracle they do destroy all the tanks/vehicles you have either.
(1) played against an unusually stupid tactically inept opponent.
(2) Have played against an opponent who takes 1 tank.
(3) Have had the incredible luck to draw perfect LOS to every vehicle, rolled every dice perfectly and rolled amazingly well on the damage tables.
A more typical scenario is decent LOS to one tank, maybe two, a stunned result or weapon destroyed etc on one and then the opponent has his chance to retaliate.
Hammerheads fit a mech list a lot better than either XV88's or sniper drones, because they have the mobility to protect themsleves and not suffer penalties for moving and shooting.
erm i aint to good with the terms so what is a helios multi and a fireknife multi...
Riki, now you're being unfair. I have debated you point for point for pages, and I don't feel like it anymore. I in fact use two Broadsides and two hammerheads, so there'snot all that much to hide, and the Broadsides. ANd you know that, since we've talked about it for pages, so your words ring hollow. The BS add extra punch I wouldn'thave if I fhad 3 HH. And hell, if I had three squads of BS and no HH, where they going to hide then? Frankly, if they can keep out of LOS of three seperate squads, good for them, they obviously ain't shooting back at me then, are they!
And yes, People charge for the BS and fall for a firetrap. Or they shoot at the BS, who have shield drones, rather than the Broadsides, and do nothing for a few turns. People shoot for my 6 lone FW, cuz it's the only light infantry on the board, too, so?
Bottomline: It works for me, and you can't say it doesn't. You don't play me, nor have you ever seen me play. And it's starting to piss me off, cuz you're essentially calling me a liar. I gave you a "let's agree to disagree, and you give me this drivel. Poor form, poor form.
