Welcome to Librarium Online!
I played nids for the first time today and yesterday since the old dex. And the guy said there was no shoot the big ones rule ( or the one that let u shoot the big ones in combat) so i played without and still won. After the game we shook hands and whatever but i asked if i could study his codex for a while. He agreed and i was supprised to find that it wasn't in there. Now I know a lot of tactics that used this rule and now is it gone or can i just not read.
If any of u guys can clear this up for me i would appreciate it. Thanks.
Nope, its gone...
Standard Monstrous Creature are Target Priority now.
But I call to God, and the LORD saves me.
The new targetting priorities pretty much excluded StBO.
Basically, you can shoot the closest target or the closest size 3 target without taking a leadership test. After that, you have to take a leadership to fire at any other model (if you fail the leadership, you can still shoot at the closest target or size 3 target).
Also, if a size 3 target is the closest to you, you must take a leadership to shoot at any other squad even if size 1 rippers are just an inch further away than that gaping CC carnifex.
It's not the end of the world and Tyranids got plenty shafted in the new codex...and we continue getting shafted.

Darn i loved that rule. O well at least u guys have the most customizable army immagineable. Why does a carnifex suck so bad in cc i mean a standard ws of three that is downright awful.
ahh... i dunno y they reduced its cc stats, was rather disapointed with that, specially because the new fex model looks so menacing when geared up for cc, but just isnt cost efective.
another problem is that regeneration, though a very good idea, lacks alot. 30ish points for a small chance to regain a wound? what? and crushing claws were dressing, because a simple screamer killer-ish fex got on average almost as many attacks as the clawed 1, but ofr a surprising amount lesss.
but enough of my lametning, the nids as a whole got better, and that was somewaht off-topic
so yes, shoot the big ones is gone, but target priorty still means you will usaully get to soot at what you want
despite its low weapon skill a cc orientated carnifex can tear most armies a new one if used well, my friend use two in his lists and they are always the last to go down. i once saw them rip through virtually an entire guard army. They far from suck in cc
Don't touch that please, your primitive intellect wouldn't understand things with alloys and compositions and things with... molecular structures.
Its not that they don't such in CC (far from it in most cases) it just that they are too slow to be extremely effective espically with hidden VS with PF lurking around. Really the only way I can see a CC fex is one that is cheap enough to go into the elite section and you give it the biomorphs so that it can hit SM on 3+. Though that guy is still seldom used.Originally Posted by Herr Flik
