Welcome to Librarium Online!
I'm working on building an Eldar army and I have the essential, A farseer, sixteen Guardians, and eight Rangers. I can't decide what to get next though. I don't know if I should add CC units, fast units, or more firepower. Any advice would be helpful.
At this point, basically anything that you add to your army will come in handy. It's often suggested that when building a new army, you start with your core of 1 HQ choice and 2 Troops choices, thereafter adding a single choice from each of Elite, Fast Attack and Heavy Support.Originally Posted by ReaperRob
Normally, I agree. However, depending on the Craftworld that you're playing, that my change slightly. Are you using any of the rules from Codex: Craftworld Eldar, or just the basic Codex: Eldar book?
If you're using the basic book, adding a Wraithlord for a Heavy Support choice armed with a Bright Lance, some support weapons for your Guardian Squads (Starcannons), a Vyper or two for Fast Attack (probably want Starcannons on those, too) and Striking Scorpians for Elites (an Exarch armed with a Scorpians claw is hard to beat).
That should give you a nice force to play with, and will be easy to expand further.
Good luck to ya.
I'm just using th ebasic book, thanks for the advice.
Wait for the new Codex before buying anything new, except Weapon platforms for your Guardians which should come in handy.
Warhammer Fantasy: Warriors of Chaos, High Elves
Warhammer 40k: Eldar, Space Marines, Orks
Yeah, but how long will I end up waiting for the new book?
The new Codex: Eldar is coming out in November. It's a long time to wait, but might end up saving you a lot of money in the long run. It's your choice.Originally Posted by ReaperRob
I picked up a new Heavy Weapon platform to day to expand my army. Now I'm just trying to figure out how to set it up so I can swap out the weapons.
Might want to run a Search in the Modelling and/or Conversion forums. I'm sure that they'll have something. If not, just post, asking how to go about it.Originally Posted by ReaperRob
From what I see you have a Mobile support (Gaurdians), long range support (Rangers) and a HQ that can improve your units fighting ability (Farseer). What I think you need now is a little hitting power and maybe a little speed to give you an edge in a fight. I recommend the Falcon Grav Tank equipped with a starcannon for this purpose. The model is also quite resiliant during battle and has transport capacity. The transport option is typically used for small squads of aspect warriors, the most common is that of the fire dragon aspect (Anti-tank unit primarily) due to the models being fragile, the speed allows them to get to a target with little harm. There are other options such as using a storm gaurdian squad equipped with flamers (warlock given Destructor psychic power) for effective horde clearance.
While the wraithlord is a good choice in basic Eldar force due to it's resiliance and capacity to make a good weapons carrier (because of decent Ballistic Skill) the model is a slow mover and will be replaced with a newer model in the near future.
Victor has quite a nice general Eldar Guide written up in the "New Eldar Tactica" post, you can refer to that to gain better incite to the useage of different units. This way you know their abilities and see if they compliment your army or style of play.
