Is a squad of 10 Kroot large enough to be of any use at all? Honestly they're in my army as a roadblock. I had 13, but reduced it for the extra points (which I used to tweak my Pathfinders.) So, my question is: Can a 10 Kroot squad act as an effective speed bump?
It depends, really. I don't think of them as being a "speed bump" at all - I field Kroot in squads of 10, myself. They are much better at infiltrating into a forward position (maybe capturing an objective?), preferably into woods/jungles if at all possible, and then harassing the enemy with fairly decent shooting.Originally Posted by VossBC

Kroot are a good unit with a lot of strengtsh and a few weaknesses, a unit of ten would be best served as an cover using infiltrating unit to provide a first line of shooting.Originally Posted by VossBC
A unit of 10 is going to be pretty much useless in CC there INT, TGH and lack of save means they are always going to come of worst, they can however hold up a unit giving time for a more valuable Tau unit to escape.
If you choose to infiltrate make sure they can infitrate into cover (wooded if possible) this will make them a lot more durable, and also offer them an advantage if they are charged (unless the charging unit has a frag equiv the Krootstrike 1st in CC from cover).
Use the Kroots weaponas a priotiy do not assualt unless its desperate, the Kroot gun is bolter equiv and is rapid fire so use it.
The Kroot are good in city of Death because of wealth of cover and in my opinion should be taken.
A unit of 10 Kroot in a non CofD game is a bit harder to use and a bit more limited but for 70 pts can provide some valuable distraction and harrassment, drawing fire away from your Tau.
So infiltrate into cover, go for untis you can damage and shoot them, resist the temptation to assault (unless its dire) and use them as a first line of engagement.
To be effective as a speed bump they have to be in cover, and one last tip avoid flamer heavy squads or the aroma of lightly roasted Kroot will drift across the batltlefield
Awesome, thank you. So the idea is to draw fire by having the Kroot be the closest squad to my opponant's firing unit?
Yeah, listen to these guy's their wealth of expireance is always broad and free. the Kroot aren't meant to be sacrificed, just used differantly. cover is by far the best way to stop them dying, and infiltrating them next to something like DA can tie a large force down for quiet a while. attaching kroot hounds is good if you think you'll get a lot of CQC, as with DA.
If ten Kroot infiltrate in the woods, does any one know how many there realy are?
I make a point of never laughing at stupid people. They can't help that they're stupid, just as I can't help hitting them.- Aun'Vre
10 kroot is a good size. As the others have stated they can be used to capture objectives and put pressure on the opponent to dig them out of cover. A good, cheap unit.

The "A Smart Player Will..." theory is a complete paradox. If we make an assumption that everything we do is outsmarted, then theoretically we can never win.
