Looking for opinions on this question. I can get 1 Ravener w/ RC and ST for 40 pts or I can get 2 Genestealers w/ EC for 40 pts. Which would you go with? I am leaning toward taking out the raveners and adding more Genestealers. The stealers have +1 WS, +1 Init, +1 attack(not charging), and +1 Sv. The only advantages to the Ravener that I can see are that they would be a separate unit(making my opponent divide their firing), and they would be 1 model instead of 2(vs. armies with multiple blast templates, but could be a diasvantage with armies with many heavy weapons). What do you all think? Thanks in advance for your advice.
well you can deep strike with raveners plus they have overall better stats and more wounds. If you take 2 sets of ST you get 6 attacks per ravener on the charge!! Also remember they are beasts where genes are not.
I couldn't figure out if a CC 'Fex or a Shooting 'Fex is better. So I got both of them!
I think it's really your playstyle...do you prefer extra speed or higher body count? Genestealers have the better save but the Ravener's is almost as good...if it's in CC.

I love raveners and the first thing is I almost never deepstrike them in. The reason why is they can get into combat much faster on foot then via deepstrike. The soonest you can get into CC with deepstrike is 3 while on foot it is almost garenteed(sp?) on turn 2. Also almost always take them in squads of 1 if at all possible. If they fire at the single ravener they aren't shooting your bigger squads then. Not to mention they can go unoticed if their is enough models and can give some killing power to your hormagaunt squads while genestealers are high priority targets raveners are usually under the radar.
Their stats are usually good enough to take out most units though genestealers is superior in almost everyway except in wounds and speed.
Is it me or does any other necron player get annoyed when they see people saying "Necrons eat souls". How is that even possible as souls are part of the warp and necrons want nothing to do with it? Eh probaly me just me being picky.

Raveners are one of the greatest units Tyranids can have at the end of the game. Have you ever had a table quarter contested by a forty point unit? There is nothing more frustrating than that. I think every FA slot that isn't filled by gargoyles (I use two squads instead of hormies) should be filled with Raveners. I have used squads of just about every number and every time they do something significant. My squads of One kill independent charactors/Lock up powerfisters so they can't hit my tyrants/fexes; my squads of five anihilate the kill zones of full squads of space marines and Orks, and then finish what they started the next phase. Great in every phase of the game, and with their speed they get better and better as the endgame comes near.
1 FA slot should be for flying warrior me thinks.
But the rest - you go ravener crazy baby!
You have to use them with a little care (hugging cover, keeping in synapse etc) because they're a bit delicate and need to wear their mittens or they'll catch a cold.
But, I've had them rip up entire squads, kill Chaos HQs, rend through vehicles. I don't have much experience so either, I've just been very lucky OR they're incredibly good units. While the former in undoubtedly true to a certain extent, the latter is also undoubtedly true.

A brood of 10x Genestealers can devistate anything on its own. On the other hand, Raveners are perfect support units. I like sending them in after my Hormagaunst have hit home for a bit more combat prowless.

I think it has to do with army make-up. I field an entire genestealer army, all of them having just extended carapace. and I wouldnt dream of using Raveners. However, in a swarm army, I would try and fill up the troop slots with various gaunt types, and have three Raveners one for each fast attack choice. I think that would make a really effective combo.
