Welcome to Librarium Online!
A crazy idea pooped into my head last night, and it sounded so out there that it absolutely MUST be tried: The Squirelly Wrath Army.
I'm trying to fill every possible slot slot with rippers. tons and tons of rippers. So, then comes the ugly question: How does one accquire 90 ripper bases? I might, (big might) use the forgeworld flyer ones for $hit$ and giggles, but even at 3 to a base, and 9 Pounds for 9, that's a little pricey for an army's worth.
Then there's the 15 Lbs for Three uber cool swarmey bases, but again, at 5 Lbs apiece, that's still about 7-9 dollars a base. Not worth the overseas shipping.
And BattleWagon is selling them 12.99 for 9 or ten. Sadness.
I'm toying with some form of replication, perhaps enrolling in a sculpture class JUST for the lost wax, and casting up a coffee can full of bronze rippers. But that'd seem mildly insane when someone at a tounament notices one batch of rippers wieghs a pound heavier than the others (bronze ain't light). And because it's a copy of a GW model, does it still count as one? Yeah, an issue of dubious legality, that.
Any thought. I'm hunting E-bay right now, but I was hoping to pick up more than 4-5 bases at a time. Any thoughts?

Do not meddle in the affairs of Tyranids, for you are crunchy, and good with ketchup.
Dude, your $hit unlucky. Like 2-3 days ago some flying forgeworld rippers (3 bases) went dirt cheap, sum1 sold 20 rippers for like £5 a bit b4 and sum1 sold another 20 recently, i just suggest checking ebay
waiting for the sunrise!
I'm no 'nid player, but I am a Necron player. What do we have in common? Swarms which can't be bought by themselves easily. I advise some of the dirty tricks used on scarabs swarms.
-Put less on the base: Ripper swarms have 3 wounds, right? Do you really need 5 rippers per base for WYSIWYG on 3 wounds? Most Necron players put 3 scarabs per base for that reason (scarabs have the same number of wounds). Put some cool scenery on the base to disguise the lack of extra rippers and score some cool points. :shifty:
-Burrowing: A personal fave. Cut your rippers in half at an angle. Stick each half flat on the bottom of the base (don't put it on scenery like metal or building bitz). You now have one ripper which is tunneling down and one which is emerging from a tunnel. Use putty and/ or sand to model 'broken earth' around the little guys for effect. Ta-da! one ripper becomes two! :w00t:

Something else I suggest and I am trying to do is make winged Rippers out of loads of spare adrenal glands. I'm going to do this by putting them up on pegs stuck to a base and the adding two of the thumb of the left arm of the Gaunt devourer as teeth. I will then use one tyranid warrior flesh hook as a tail. How I'm going to do the wings I'm not sure. You could also use adrenal glands on the ground. With one or two extra bits added they might make nice little hyperactive Tyranid mutant adrenal gland turtles. You could also try using spare Tyranid warrior heads as tough little armoured Rippers.
Hope this helps.
I dont, know much about he gaunt plastic sets, but if there are gautn heads on there own you could use green stuff to make tail things on the heads....or clip away the bodies from the heads and do the same thing.
You efeectivley get 18 (am i right in saying u get 18 in a box? I am a warhammer player so please excuse my ignorance) rippers and the rippers you can get from the box itself.
They'll look different but not all rippers would, would they?
Orkrontyr hit the nail on the head.
You can go one step further and do what I did. Use magnets on the bottom of the rippers and one big magnet under the base. Now when you take wounds, you can just take a ripper off.
