Hey I was just wondering as a new nid player why nobody here really uses regen? Is it the point cost or what. Thank you for your time.
I took the road less traveled... Thank god for gps system.
Most probably believe its not worth its points in the chance to regain a few wounds.one out of six is not very favorable and in most cases where it would be good to have their is always the high chance that the carnifex will be dead before it gets to use regeneration.
I've seen people use it on three five wound 'fex's and thats just scary when it works. (I saw one four wound fex get up and keep going after losing four of its five wounds and then regenerating three.)

It's actually not that bad, but I think the cost is still too high.
Since you get to roll a die for every wound the fex has taken, the chances of regenerating at least one wound go up like this (calculated as 1-((5/6)^wounds taken):
1 wound taken: 16.7%
2 wounds taken: 30.6%
3 wounds taken: 51.8%
4 wounds taken: 59.8%.
Regenerate really is only worth it when the Carnifex is given an extra wound so you can maximise it's benefits. It is best given when the Carnifex may get some kind of chance to spend a turn or two in relative safety. This gives it the chance to maximise the benefit. It is also good choice for the Carnifexes who fight at a distance with venom cannons and barbed stranglers. The weapons those Carnifexes have to worry about are the long ranged power super strength weapons, rapid-firing and multiple shot weapons will be out of range. Only a extra wound and regenrate will offer protection as these weapons are often so powerful that improved toughness and armour saves are useless.
I think that many people don't like regenerate because of it's random nature. There is no guarantee that it will work when you need it too. A carnifex could lose four out of five wounds on the first turn and the not regenerate any until the sixth turn and on the sixth turn it might only get one back or it could get them all back. Basically I think that many avoid regenrate because unlike many other biomorphs such as bonded exosheleton and extended carapace players are unsure of how good it will be. If you want to take the chance go for it regenerate can be great but remember it can also be worthless.
If you have good luck with dice rolls, then go for it. As for myself, I don't find it at all useful. Unlike Old One Eye's regeneration, this new one isn't reliable enough for it's ludicris price.

I'm new with the nids also but i have used regen on my carni and it has helped me more then it being a waste. I think it just really counts on how much chance you want to put into it. The way I see it is if I can give my carni one more wound then it has donw it's job.
