As the post says, I've been having doubts about the usefullness of Lictors. Maybe it's just the way I use them. I just played against a cityfight battle against a Chaos player, and I launched a lictor against a squad of 5 Havocs in one building and one against a squad of 10 Marines. The result was the lictor inflicted no casualties on the Havocs and died the same turn, while the other lictor lasted 2 turns and killed 2 marines before dying. So only one squad was delayed, and that was only for a turn. My other experiances with Lictors have gone about the same. Now, should I just stop using Lictors, should I launch all Lictors against 1 squad simultaneaously, or what exactly should I do? Right now my lictors don't seem to be earning their expense, with a terrible save (in cc) and a low toughness. Any suggestions?

lictors are not worth it against marines, but against tau and IG they are great. also people sometimes get scared of them and shoot their entire army at them and if ur in ruins thats a 2 plus cover save and it might even live. plus against people who use lines (such as IG) they make excelent walls in assault.

The thing is that marines can fight back and have a good chance of winning......try to sick them on stuff that can't. Like the evil broadsides on the field trying to down your fex or the stealth team that wants to wipe out your warriors. (other examples are....every IG and almost every eldar foot unit.)
just take them out against mech armies and save the points for another fex or something.

If you expect them to make back their points in kills then you're going about it the wrong way.
They are to be used as a tool for psychological warfare, i.e. your opponent will be worried about where your Lictors will show up. Their other role is to provide support for your swarm via Feeder Tendrils. They also excell at attacking the rear armor of most vehicles.
"They say the Darkness consumes you. They don't say what happens after It's done."
I think they do fine in most games. Just have to attack the right type of unit okay? Its it Space Marines, hit those low in size. Like small Devastator units and etc. and if you use more, rule of thumb is 1 for every 850points. But yes, Lictors are better against Tau and IG.
Try using them in an escalation fight or when you're deepstriking units too.
At their S, they're always a big threat to GEQs and can do a great deal to vehicles too when they approach them from behind.
Failing that, deepstrike them next to a bunch of fighting hormies and reap in that feeder tendril goodness!
Considering Oblits are 70 points, i think lictors are maybe a wee bit overpriced, but they're cool have excellent fluff and very nice models.
The problem is that you are using them wrong. Use them more like assasination units. If there is a tank that is in the back bombarding you, hit it with a lictor. Any lone HQs or important units, essecially ones with power fists, can be wasted easily. Also they are essential with any deepstriking units or escalation games. You just have to be more tactical about how you use it. In 4th edition they aren't the cc monsters they used to be and the problem is a lot of people still use them like it. Marines troops will kill them in cc. IG or tau troops may not do it quickly but they have a good chance of winning eventually because of pure numbers.

Wish list for a Lictor. Increase the points to say 100. In the assault phase a Lictor may fire 2 flesh hooks(up to 12") at 2 targets or a single target. the lictor then engages in HtH combat with those units as normal and counts as charging, If the unit/s are slain by the lictor the squad must pass a morale test or be pinned. The idea being they are afraid of the lictor.
I just think this would fit in with the fluff. It may be too good at char assasination though i doubt it at the lictor only has rending not a power weapon. But i think it sort of adds to the mistique of the lictor, in all the storys its hit and run where it dissappears to fast for the squad to react. Probably overpowered but i just thought it would be a very cool ability and completely unique but the idea I believe fits the Lictor perfectly.
It would be a very expensive unit at 100pts considering what it does but I think that would be balanced however I have no way of justifying that, also no scatter on the deepstrike, the lictor is already there and knows its prey it shouldn't scatter.

Some intersting fluffy suggestions there Carni.
I have a few more to add to the pot, a little more conventional perhaps:
1. They have fleet of foot - ONLY WHEN IN COVER
2. If they don't have monsterous creature status, the give them 1 extra attack at least!
3. Invulnerable saving throw when in cover.
Maybe a little too much bumpf, but it would encourage a fluffy use of an excellent unit.
