I just played my first City of Death game the other day. It was a Fire Sweep mission at 1000 points on a 4'x4' table versus Imperial Guard.
Needless to say, it was a massacre win for my 'Nids. I used the Ammo Dump stratagem and stuck my 6 shooty Warriors in the building and wrecked everything. With the Move Through Cover, Fleeting, and Flesh Hooks, almost my entire army was in combat 2rd turn.
My question is, do you think Tyranids are overpowered for CoD?
I wouldn't say we are overpowered in COD but I do say we have some nice advantages in it thats for sure. Plus if the IG player had taken in a couple of hellhounds in his army against you that would of been really sucky for you as most of the time your models will be fairly close so they all can have that nice 4+ cover save so say goodbye to a good chunck of your units.
Really we still have the weakness to flammers and if the enemy is in building it can be harder to reach some shooty units. Still with all the advantages we gain in COD I think we can be pretty mean even if their are some flamers on the table (just gotta be more carefull then and not rely on cover save too much).
Is it me or does any other necron player get annoyed when they see people saying "Necrons eat souls". How is that even possible as souls are part of the warp and necrons want nothing to do with it? Eh probaly me just me being picky.

A properly prepared Guard army should be able to match toe-to-toe with the Nids. The Nids love cover, they absolutely love it, but so do the Guard. Both have pretty hefty advantages in COD. Inferno cannons, heavy flamers, and normal flamers all have the ability to chew through Tyranids and with stratagems like Sewer Rats or infiltrating veterans or storm troopers you can get into blasting range real quickly.
Come to think of it, what armies really don't like lots of cover? Even shooty armies like it if they play right.
Personally I think city fighting is the best context to play 40k battles in, and I can't wait to start updating our table. Many of our buildings are still in their early stages of contruction .
P.S. I also played my first COD game today. It was my BA vs. Nids in a 500pt match. I don't remember the scenario name but it's the one where you have to take the opponent's defended city ruin. It ended on turn 4 when I wiped out his last models, but I didn't have enough models in any of my 3 squads to score, so it was a draw even though I had a hefty chunk of points left on the table.
sadly, most marine players bemoan cover. You don't deserve a save against their guns, but they should always get one vs you. Like the winning you'll hear about starcannons killing marines. My advice, stay in cover. Lord knows my GS have to, all my eldar do.
Have yet to try the new CoD, but it certainly sounds enjoyable. I just see too many people at my store tooling up for it. Swapping in a bunch of flamers.
Last game I played was me vs a horde IG. Man it was fun. great sport. could have gone either way, as he rolled really well first turn. after killing about a 1/4 of my force, I was a bit worried. Then the dice shifted. I got 10 ravs into CC along with 20 GS. and averaged more rends than I usually get in a whole game, per turn.
He had fun, I squeeked by in the end (was turning into a rout for me though). New army to try. Love the ravs, just hate the sticker shock and the armour=( use cover is the moral there too huh?
Anyways, enjoy and most armies I've heard talk about CoD enjoy and claim decent balance.
16,000+ of Eldar (only need flyers)
7,000+ of Nids (want heirophant)
6,000+ of Space Marines (need rever titan)
4,400+ of Cygnar (all models for the faction)
1,500+ of Legion (just started)
looking at the book, and all the nice-eties that shooty armies can choose, i'd say it is balanced. but every game i've played or heard about involving nids has ended in total disater for he other force. its fun as hell, really a great expansion. im just pointing out some thing i found odd. come to think of it, the whack to the nads we got in the faq was probably the result of a city fight
Tyranids have always been deadly in cityfights, same with the DE and orks, all of these armies have troops that have poor saves and in this area they get the benefit of a lot of cover.
Cityfight favours the more cc oriented armies.
your comment is right against a good amount of SM players, those who have just started or aren't able to get tacticly higher, veteran SM do know the value of cover as a well played IG army will turn them to dust otherwise.
I have such a SM player at my local club, he's young, inexperienced and says such things like who needs cover, I've got SM.
I've played 4 or 5 CoD games with my nids, and I've one every one of them. Several of them, specatacularly so. My opponents have tried the flamer route with me, even using an immolator, and I still wooped up.
