i was thinking about starting another army, and orks have the highest amount of conversion possibilities, or so i've heard.. just wondering where to start, like i got the dex and started lookin for it, and i realized that i just love the boyz, ones w/ sluggas and choppas... w/ the power of the Waaagh ,did i get that right?, a squad of ten boyz can dish out a nasty 40 attacks on the charge at marine equiv initiative i'm not even goin to start on the chappa, i loves it. but in any case, do footsloging armies hold up? i want a bunch of boys, stormboys and prolly just a warboss. I did look at speed freaks and i dont like the competativness of it, if i want to i'll just buy some truks and call it speed freaks if i really wanna be competative.. in any case any quick tips that would be usefull in an army like i wanna build?
Well footslogging armies ARE viable, you just have to do it rite. First of you want at least 20 boyz to a mob. Considering you dont really ever get a save agaisnt anything, ever, those boyz will start to drop fast to concentrated fire. Either trukkboyz or stormboyz are good to tie up the enemy while the rest of your boyz get there. Killa Kanz are also a viable unit for footsloggers (they are basicly mini dreads for cheap) A looted vehicle does nicely in a footslogging force, especially a leman russ (reg/demolisher) and a basilisk. Make sure to get loads of da boyz (ive got 90 in 1500 pts) some of da toyz (looted vehicle, buggies, trukks, possibly a battlewagon) and also make sure to put a nob with a pk in all of your slugga squads, armor plate all vehicles and get some fast stuff to tie up the enimies. In general, you're looking to overwhelm your oponent with targets and models.
you plop down 100+ models to his 50 at 1500 and most oponents will sweat .
also, keep in mind that number of targets(ork mobs) is also important for orky shooting.
an ork, by himself, can't hit the broad side of a battlecruiser that's right on top of him with anything, but you toss in 15 to 20 rokkits, or big shootas and your oponent will soon learn to fear the orky shooting abilities.
But, in general, you are concerned with getting across the board, getting there as fast as possible while preserving as many boyz as possible.
People do with with either: the fast as possible method: speed freeks,
or for footsloggas: screening. As mentioned above, say, a trukk with 10 boyz and a nob in it, 3 warbuggies with TL rokkit launchas, I take 2 squads of 3 warbuggies to increase my shooty, a squad of killa kans and as many gretchin as you can stomach.
all these elements forward deploy just ahead of your boys and serve as decoys(immediate threats) so your footslogging 90+ boyz can close in and smoosh em! Which should be by turn 3. I think its important to have dispursed shooting capability in your army so your oponent can't easily out flank you and run circles for ever(like tau fish o fury) they'll think twice before parking that devilfish right in front of 10+ rokkits, and many MANY powerklaw attacks(if it comes to that).
I consider footsloggas as a moving carpet of rokkitlaunchas and boys all advancing for one purpose.. stomp dem odda boyz!
Whether they be 'umies, marine boyz or other greenskins that think they's tougher dan us, and we's gonna show em!
