Welcome to Librarium Online!
I see almost everyone here recommends BS and VC on tyrant and carny. Since the best BS score is only 3 in the entire army, is it really worth the extra points for something that will hardly ever hit, and takes away from CC? I know the big guys get shot to hell trying to move into assault range, (I LOATH ratling snipers). Guns give the ability to shoot back but if you can't hit, what's the point? I'm not bashing shooty carni or tyrants, I'm just new to the game, and don't understand the logic behind it. You guys have been giving me awesome advice so far, ( all the responses on how I should fight my dark angel buddy was sweet!) so I'm hoping you guys can clear this up for me.
By the way, do you require line of sight for warp blast? I'm told since it's a psk power I don't
Despite the low BS score even with enhanced senses, the shootyfex is still your last, best hope for popping vehicles. The barbed strangler is just the icing on the cake with its high-strength large blast template for use on troops.
Since the VC fires twice on the carnifex, your chances of missing completely with it is only 25%. Since you'd be unlucky not to get at least three troops in a unit under the pie-plate, you an afford to miss half the time.
But the Nid army is about numbers. If you're worried about missing with shootyfexes, take two or three of them.
It's interesting how something on paper look good, and perform badly on the field and viceversa.
Gunfexes sound rubbish, but when even I've used one, they've always been a pleasure to handle. Solid reliable killing power. Don't forget that BS3 is totally average, it's not worse or crappy. Admittedly, Imperial Guard players would eat thier own faces to get BS 4, but leave that to the marines. gunfexes look bad on paper, but they work.. which is why everyone takes them.
In comparison, leaping warriors with rending claws sound great.. but are pretty crappy on the field,.. getting shot to peices or even out CCd without too many problems.
Also.. i would have though that the Warp blast needed LOS...

You have to use a Venom Cannon Carnifex to really know whether it is good or not. Like Karmoon said, they don't to great on paper, but they really aren't that bad. It's really worth it for around 130 points, compared to a, say Dreadnought.
Wow do they realy get out CCd? They seem very good when you put all the goodies on them. Beside i just bought 9 of them (5 shooty and 4CC).In comparison, leaping warriors with rending claws sound great.. but are pretty crappy on the field,.. getting shot to peices or even out CCd without too many problems
Let slip the dogs of war.
Bretonian (over 5k points)
Tomb king (over 5k points)
Ogre kingdom (4.5k points)
Tyranid (3k points but not even half assemble, new army)
Doesnt the VC have 3 shots? Anyway, the gun fex and the dakka fex are your best choices for shooting, except for a shooty tyrant, but the fexes have much higher strength. They really do work well and I use at least one or the other during every match. I hope this advice helps you as you become farmiliar with the game.
Actually my leaping warriors perform very well in my games. They always are worth it.
VC has 3 shots on tyrant, only 2 on fex since it is based one number of attacks.
Shooty fexes are definately worth it. The vc is going to be strength 10 and bs is almost as good. I don't really like going with both weapons since I never have much need for a tank buster. (Thats what spore mine clusters and biovores are for which incidently work out pretty good). I double up on the bs and even though the twinlinked gun still looks like it has a decent chance of missing, it rarely does. The other thing you have to think about is the durability of a fex. They are very tough and can't just be taken out like an IG lascannon.

GW really needs to make its rules clearer!!!
Anyway, thank you guys so much for waking me up to this, id of never worked it out and always lost my 2nd vc shot!
I personaly my tyrant 2 twinlinked devourers because this guy is crazy at shooting down infintry with 12 shoots with rerollls to hit and wound.
