Welcome to Librarium Online!
Alright, I've seen boards having mixed feelings about taking 15 Destroyers, and how it is 'unfair,' even though the oppossing army did agree to fighting them, but would it be justified to mass Destroyers or (my beloved) Scarabs against a Tau player who keeps taunting you? Even though we haven't played a game yet, he says he's going to shoot my 'robot zombies' to kingdom come...
Now really, is the Warhammer 40K era a happy peaceful place? Hell no, so why would taking 15 Destroyers be considered 'evil?!' :argh: It's not over powered when compared to the things the Tau can take, and mind you, I only plan to use this strategy on those little blue guys, and he CAN out-range me, anyways. Those rail guns hurt against ANY army, and he can have multiple Broadside Teams, not to mention that his STANDARD FW's are able to shoot as far as a Destroyer, so why bash on the 15 Destroyers? <_<
Then there is the tactic of massing Scarabs... A dirty anti-tank strategy, but let's face it, Tau could blow them all to hell before they even get within range... And hate seeing my little guys getting hit by a blast template...
As for the 'fluff' themed thing, I'll only use that many Destroyers/Scarabs against Tau, since I love all my Pariahs/FO/Warriors to death, so before you think I'm a 'go for the gold no matter what' kind of person, I'm not.
Not to get off track here...
1) What would be better to reprimand my friend's little Tau, massing Destroyers or Scarabs?
2) Any fun ideas on Lord's with the VoD?
He needs to be re-educated on why the Necrons shall rule the universe...
Destroyers or scarabs will do the job fine. All depends on what you wanna see happen. If you choose the scarabs tho he may just go "ohwell tau suck in CC, scarabs arent that great" so destroyers might be more fun. As for the lord ... deffinately stick him with 10 immortals. From there you wanna deepstrike next to his railheads or broadsides and take them out asap. Many tau players rely on them too much, so pop them on your first turn if you can. After the initial shock he'll recieve, its only down hill for him from there
I wouldn't use Scarabs myself, but that's because Tau have a lot of S6+ guns that can instant-kill your Swarms before they get close. I'm no Necron player, but to me at least, Destroyers seem like a much better option, with their beefy Toughness, brutal rate of fire, manueverablility and WBB. Squads of Destroyers should be able to down things like Hammerheads in a single turn of fire, provided you take enough (5 per unit sounds good to me, seeing that you're firing an insane 15 shots per turn).
Even things like Crisis suits and Stealth teams won't be safe, as the Destroyers are fast enough to easily keep pace with them, and don't need to worry so much about JSJ.
As for morality... if he's talking trash, trash him. Simple as that. 10 Immortals, 3 squads of 5 Destroyers, a whole bunch of Warriors and a Lord with Veil sounds like an excellent start. Flay that stupid fish-head down to his atoms, please. I hate Tau.:shifty:
ok well you can use that list against anyone truth is, morality is something wasted on the weak... i dont remember who said it. really it doesnt matter, its a choice nothing more.
personaly id mass worriors and set them like 1 1/2" apart to avoid mass killings by templats and possibly 2 lords to keep them alive.
i do agree that scarabs, though great choices, will be killed on 2+ by EVERY SINGLE WEAPON in thier army, and more then half insta-killed... so destroyers really might be a better option
In the name of god impure souls of the living dead shal be banished into eturnal damnation. Amen.
Whats all this focus on your fast attack without considering how badly tau would be screwed against say, 30 infiltrating flayed ones?
Tau get destroyed by necrons badly. Quite honestly, you could take pretty much anything you want and you should be able to pull off an easy win. Don't fear his railguns, each can only kill one necron a turn at best (and of course, with a rez orb near by they don't look so hot now do they ).

Yeah, waste those upstart little creatures with their dreams of a greater good. What greater good is there but to serve the C'tans?
Destroyers and Immortals positively rule against Tau. Their AP will make short work of his FW squads. Consider taking a few heavy destroyers along to go for the broadsides or the odd Shas' whatever in crisis suit if you have the points to spare. Instakill is a fine thing. Wraith squads work like a charm against Tau, too. This may be an option if you don't have enough destroyers and don't want to use proxy models. Forget about the scarabs, as they will die way too quickly.
Consider fielding a few Tomb Spyders. The proved to be great fire magnets in my experience. just state that "my monstrous creature here will chew your stubid crisis teams up but good" and watch how your opponent makes a point killing units that have absolutely nothing to do with your strategy and won't hurt your phase out. Works more often than one would think. Psychological warfare has its place in WH40k. :shifty:
Edit: Hell yes! Massed flayed ones would be a pain in the @$$ for tau armies bent on standing and shooting.

Not in my game you won't!!
Flayed ones aren't that expensive. same as warriors, so it's another way to boost PO. As for the Transports... you know how well vecicles of any kind fare against a necron army. There won't be much transporting done after turn 3.
True, tau have the means to evade flayed ones. But you can still use this to your advantage, herding the tau where you want them, just by having the threat of the FO's on the table. It doesn't have to be massed FO's, either. Deepstriking a squad of four behind cover, close to a FW squad can prove useful. Sure, the FO's will die quickly if the FW's open up at rapid fire range, but that's only 72 points loss for you and at least one enemy unit didn't shoot at something precious that turn...
