I'm trying to decide if having a hell mask on my lord is worth it.
The thing is because of his initative and attacks he will probabally kill most things in base-to-base with him before they attack back. Therefore it kinda makes it redundant.
However it would be useful against low leadership armies and other HQ's who fail their leadership checks.
Although really is it worth having it?
...but since the opponent can choose which casualties to remove, this is not that often the case, and the return attacks of everyone in support range of the remaining models in base contact are a major threat. The thing is because of his initative and attacks he will probabally kill most things in base-to-base with him before they attack back.
Especially against a horde army there will be return attacks...
Personally I take the hell mask in friendly games when I know I will likely be facing horder opponents, but for harder edged play I would rather have more bodies on the board (even if it is just 1). I also think that against horde armies it can be particularly useful as Astaroth has intimated. In addition I would add that it is important to remember that the check called for is a Leadership check not a Morale check and works under the relevant rules interactions as such. Certain rules effect only Morale checks rather than leadership checks so don't let someone decieve you off with a rule saying 'always passes morale checks'.
I jsut read that and it sounds a bit anal, sorry I've jsut been reading journals for work.
Astaroth nice to see other people who've been here longer than me
