they got the same amount of attacks and strenght as scorpions on the charge, plus rending and I7... cant see why someone would have scorpions or banshees anymore..
The enjoyment of using banshees?
The ready availability of the models?
I personally think Harlequins should be seperate from the Eldar list, but that's just me.
(also, I think it's 'rendering' not 'rending')
When I saw this, I thought you meant 'because Harlies have Rending, Banshees and Scorpions are obsolete...
Gareth is the person I try to impress when I convert and paint.
well you knew what i meant after reading the post. but they are a unit so much better than both of the others. can take on hordes MEQs TMC etc etc. fast are they too! i think they should me a 0-1 unit.
Hehe, Harlies 'rending' them obsolete when Harlies have rending weapons...pun.
Although with Fortune Harlies are more resistant to ap5+ than Banshees, Scorpions remain better armoured where they get a save. Banshees power weapons on all hits can be more useful on occasion.
You have a point though, I know 3 people planning on running max Harlies and dropping the Banshees/Scorpions.

Every time you read this sig: a fairie dies!
Scorpians are still power armoured, 3 attacks standerd, S4 hitters. They still have an exarch who hits MEQs on a 3+ and kills them on a 2+, and they can still infiltrate. They role a lot of dice at good numbers. More than that, they are somewhat standalone.
For Harlis to be as hard to kill as we've been saying, they need to get fortuned. For Banshees to really clean up, you'll want to Doom whoever they attack. Scorpians aren't quite as reliant on the buffs/debuffs as the harlis and banshees are.
Banshees still ignore armour. With Doom, I think they can kill as much or more than harlis, for less points, and with armour against bolters.
Heck, we've been talking about if bladestorm will do anything against MEQs. We'll see. But it should be able to do a lot against harliquins...
I'll be taking 2 squads of Banshees and no Harlies. (other elite would be a toss up between 'Guard, Scorpions or Dragons).
I don't like Harli models and while the rules are impressive, they don't look worth swapping for Banshees in a Wave Serpent, in terms of cool or my playing style.
Don't worry you will still see Scorps and Banshees around.
I'll reserve judgement until I've seen the points cost, but yeah.. harlequins are blatantly going to be good, if they weren't noone would take them. But they're also going to cost a lot compared to the more specialised CC troops.. Units with the ability to kill everything tend to be accordingly priced.
I swear by banshees, or at them if I'm playing against an Eldar player with my chaos. I've seen scorps do some nasty stuff, but against any army, power weapons that go first that first turn of assault, just can't be beat. Now with Doom, I don't see every giving up my squad of them, if not getting a second one.
I also don't care for the harlie models at all. And what's their armor save, a five? Man that's truely sad in 50k, and I bet they cost a lot of points. To me someting with worse then a 4+ save is not worth a lot of points.
But, do not the Harles have that Veil of Tears power which means they use a Shrouding type ability at 2d6x2? Which means the average range will be 14"...which is less than their charge range and, is at best (which hardly ever happens), you'll get a bolter shot at them.
As with many, I'll wait to see the rules and codex first, but three rending, invul saved large squads that will always hit first (without a doubt) and will, more than likely, make it into combat with little loss means very bad things.
Still, I'm not too worried. After they charge, they should have shot their bolt and 5+ saves hate the gaunt swarm of doom.
Besides, I've always loved Howling Banshees. Striking scorpions...not so sure they'll be as possible as they were, not being able to fleet and all. Still, power armor good.

stole this math thingy from warseer!
"I haven't done the math with doom, but here are some numbers against MEQs:
10 Harlies w/seer (250pts):
26,66 hits 6,66 of which are rending
10 wounds (not counting the rending)
3,33 unsaved (9,99 wounds in total on charge)
9 Banshees 144, exarch w/executioner(182pts):
13,5 hits 2 exarch hits
4,5 wounds 1,33 exarch wound (5,8 wounds in total on charge)
see that is without doom..
as you see a harley squad takes out a marine squad on the charge. imagine a assmarine squad get beat in one turn... the banshees makes the SM hit back..
