    Deep Striking Spore Mines

I had a couple questions on deep-striking spore mines that I did not see answered in my search. I am looking at bio-acid vs. vehicles.

    1) If the hole is not on the vehicle, what do I roll for penetration?

    2) Which AV do I use? Is it assumed to hit front armor or hit the side that the marker is placed on? I know that the ones fired from the Biovore hit on the side facing the Biovore but the FA ones drop from the sky.

I am trying to decide if it is worth it to take spore mine clusters as anti-tank units. Anyone with experience in this? Thanks for the help.

Bio-acid spore mines always roll 2D6+3 for vehicle penetration. Even if the hole in the center of the blast template is not over the vehicle.

In general, spore mines aren't worth the points. I personally never use them.

When a spore mine falls out of the sky such as if it is deepstriking and it lands on a tank and you can't tell which part has been hit use the closest armour value. For example if it land to the rear of a Predator but is still on top of it count it as the rear. However if at any time any confusion arises such as it's at the rear but close to the side as well then you should always count it as hitting the front.

Generally I find spore mines are handy in providing an asy kill, spore mines don't typically win games. Toxin against Dark Eldar vehicles for example is easy and can be fairly effective.

If you really want to make alot of friends, model your Spore Mines on 80mm bases. That might be interesting....

... aren't those bases bigger than the blast template anyway?

Holy crap dude, I think you just found a legitimate loophole. Except the base should be at most as big as the template, since it needs to be completely inside it when it lands, right? Haha, that would be a funny sight. Giant bases with a tiny little spore mine in the middle.

Of course, I would rather save myself an a$$ whooping and think of a different strategy...

simple way to find out what armour value to use is draw a cross over the veichel, which ever quarter the hole is over is the armour value you use.

edit: Imaginary cross, dont go painting your opponants golden deamon winning predator!

I was under the impression that, if it deepstuck ONTO the vehicle, then top armour was counted as rear armour.

And if it floated into the tank then it used side/back/front armour as applicable.

Just my 2 pennies, to be honest, I'm not sure where i heard that...

No, the small blast marker is slightly larger.

The funny thing about all of this is that it's perfectly legal albit a little cheesy.

If you really wanted to you could theoretically use the cardboard from a frozen pizza and let your biovores sit back and launch them across the table...

If a Deep-Striking Spore Cluster lands on a vehicle, see where the hole lands and use the diagram on 4thEd page 65, left column, picture of quartered vehicle to see which facing is hit. There is no such thing as "Top Armour", only Front, Side and Rear (barring the older, obsolete 3rdEd Cityfight rules).

The DSing Spores hit where the hole lands because there isn't a firing model on-table. As this is the case, You jump straight to page 65, paragraph below the picture, fourth line: "..., otherwise the attack is assumed to..."
