OK here is the thing. right now i have a game next Thursday vs IG, The IG is a staff. now.
this staff is being really annoying saying "oh I'm the best you will turn to a IG if i win because i will kill you so fast you will wonder how I did that and you will be like OHHH HOW CAN YOU DO THAT SO QUICK? and ill be like because I'm IG and I'm god!i made 4 people start playing IG!"
So i don't know what he will be bringing and i want him to cry, so i will show you what i have and i need help on defeating him.. because if this ever happens to you... you want him to be owned in the battle.

1 Raviner with ST n RC with DS
50 TermaGaunts with fleshborers**
X amount of spore mines.

the broodlord must come in with a retinue.
split the warriors into 2 sqauds or make them all CC or all shooty.
spore mines are kinda useless withour a bivore.
you may want to give zoanthropes syanapse instead of SC for you only will have a max of 3 synapse sqauds with a lot to have covered with synapse and he will have big tanks to shoot your syanpse down.
hormies may need AG for I or toxin sacs even though he may only have gaurdsmen it might be nice to wound them on a 3+.
rippers may want to split up (makes him shoot at a small sqaud and either waste shoots at them or get bitten to death).
hope this helps .

Orcs clan Red 'Eads-1000pts
remeber, guardsmen are only toughness 3, so if you give your hormies toxic sacs, you will be wounding them on a 2+. don't give them AG becuase against guard it will be a waste.
also, warp blast could be useful on the zoanthropes cuase str 10 is useful on those high av vehicals. and if he is using close order drills(all his dudes packed together), the template could do some real damage.
the only thing i really worry about is if he has alot of lemen russes. they will do a number on your troops, but you could possibly take them out with warpblast or Str10 venom cannons. the genestealers will be a big target too, so be extra careful with them. use your broodlord to attack him wherever his line is weakest, this should cuase a bit of damage.
hope this helps.:x
sweet so they only have T3 so i put hormies. uhh warriors zoanthorpes.k
uhhh Shriker.. SC means synapes creature anyway and yes i know the broodlord has no retinue thats why i put it there...(not trying to be an ass)
Max out the Genestealer retinue. You will really need the Infiltration to cause as much damage as you can. It will definately distract his fire long enough to bring your Fleshborers up. You'll want enough of them to give a shield to the limited number of Tankkillers you have. The last thing you want is your heaviest hitter getting fracturing it's skull. You'll want your Zoanthrope ready to blast out the Leman Russes.
For some reason, I don't think it would be worth bringing in the Carnifex. There is little that lascannons can do on little things, so just overwhelm him with numbers. You have tons of gaunts, use the numbers to your advantage.
If you feel that I have been helpful, please click the star, and do the same for anyone else who gives you a hand.

well that seems good... but if i have 178 pts laying down.
ill take the fex man
Gah sorry to repost but can i ask WHAT IS THERE save?
Wow you must now nothing about IG to not know their save lol. Either way they a pretty weak save of 5+ only though if for some reason he took the carpace armor doctrine then a possiblity of 4+. Either way I have never beaten my friends IG though that was in the earlier days when I was inexperienced though now I have a few more battles under my belt.
You may also want the gunfex with with reinforced chitin and EC as he can then absorb a ton of damage. Which is very usefull as IG only have for the most part 3 BS so they have to fire quite a few shots at him before they can take him down not to mention your pesky zoanthropes (which I have had actually take fire from and entire right flank and survive though since my forces on his left flank had been destroyed he could fire that flank at him now...).
Is it me or does any other necron player get annoyed when they see people saying "Necrons eat souls". How is that even possible as souls are part of the warp and necrons want nothing to do with it? Eh probaly me just me being picky.

most ig have a 4+ save
Okay, I have actually spent more time playing IG than nids, so I might be able to help.
The annoying thing about playing IG is that they are so unbalanced towards shootyness, but then we are so unbalanced towards assaultyness... basically, if he can keep you out of cc, he wins. But if you can make it to cc, you will win. (in annoying situations like this, who get's first turn has a big impact on the results).
IG live and breathe heavy weapons. Expect every single squad to have a heavy bolter or an autocannon (or if he thinks you're using big-bugs, he'll bring missile launchers and lascannons). He'll also have some HW squads on the back table edge, with 3 HB's or 3 AC's in each (or ML's or LC's). What this means is, DO NOT try to out-shoot him. Some firepower to stun his tanks is good, but you basically need to rush him and shut down his firing lanes.
Despite their incredible firepower, the basic IG troop is crap. Gaunts will decimate his troops in combat. But the big problem is going to be getting them there in one piece. REMEMBER: when you deploy, spread all of your units out at least 1" apart. It's hard to do with a big swarm, but he'll be firing either/both ordnance and flying flamer-templates at you so you need to be spread out.
Gaunts will be very important. they will eat his troops alive. However, if he plays mechanized then his troops will hide in chimera's all game long while the chimera pumps out a ridiculous amount of fire. So since you have no idea what he's got, genestealers will be important. Also, his tanks are some of the toughest in the universe. Front armour, anyways. The rear armour is almost all AV10. I think spore mines might actually be a big help here. DS-ing on his rear armour could be disastrous for him.
Basically, you just want to tie him up in cc as fast as possible. Hormies would be ideal, but fleshgaunts will do. Once you shut down his firing lanes, his tanks are useless. They can only sit there and wait for you to rend them.
I would run something like this:
HQ: Broodlord with big retinue (EC will only really help in combat, cuz all his heavy weapons are AP4. These guys need to hide in cover like their lives depend on it... but keep them spread out if he's taking ordnance)
Elites: Warriors w/ leaping, ST, RC, EC if you want it
Troops: LOADS of naked gaunts, especially hormies (keep them spread out!)
Troops: More genestealers (Again, EC might not be necessary)
Troops: rippers with leaping (these guys will humiliate his troops. And might soak up some fire, too)
FA: ravener (if you're lucky, he'll waste a turn shooting him)
FA: spore mines (don't bet on it, but aim for his rear AV 10)
HS: Zoan's (you need the synapse, and WB might stun some tanks)
It's too bad you don't have ahive tyrant...
EDIT: Oh, and his troops rely heavily on their commander for Ld. If he's smart, his HQ will be hiding under a rock or something, out of sight but nearby. If you can, take this guy out and his troops will suddenly forget how to pass Ld tests.
