I have a Tau megaforce comming in the mail (I trust you all know very well what is inside the Tau megaforce unit wise). I was just wonderring.
Should I take two firewarrior squads?
A firewarrior squad and a kroot squad? ( I also have a box of kroot).
Two firewarrior squads and a kroot squad?
finally - how many (if any) firewarrior squads should take a devilfish transport and how many warriors should I put in the squads?
I'll have more questions later but I'm curious about this right now..
Thankyou in advance..
Ok. In order for anyone to answer this question they have to know a few very important things.
1. What's the rest of your list going to look like?
2. Are you going for a static (sit and shoot bringing a massive amount of firepower to bear on the opposition), mobile (keep everything on the move so as to have fewer assault targets and extra flexibility), or hybrid (a mixture of the two) strategy?
3. What are the predominant opponents you expect to be facing?
Otherwise any advice we give could be completely useless.

I say take firewarriors, Kroot are terrible. Firewarriors have good weapons and an okay armor and strength.

Kroot have double weapons, a piddling point cost, useful guns and good weaponskill. Honestly I would probably pay 1 or 2 points more than they're worth since they have fieldcraft. They are an absolutely excellent unit.
Firewarriors have good guns and a moderate armor save at a higher cost. They're still useful, but by no means way better than kroot.
At least take some kroot, you'll find them invaluable.
Ask yourself why in the world would you trust a win loss record? Playing them yourself is the only way to tell.
The true joy in the game is playing down to the last model, no matter the odds.
Honestly, the best way to figure out which units to take in your list is to use them in your list. Either buy them or use a proxy. We can give advise on how to use them and what to load them out with but ultimately it's up to you to decide what to take. I like Kroot, some don't. I don't like piranha, some do. Personal preference really.
Look around this site and find older posts about what you are looking for, they are there trust me, then come to us with more specific questions.
And this guide:
These will give you an idea on what to take and what to expect from Tau and then you can decide what type of army you want (mobile, static or hybrid), then we can advise you in moe detail.
Uss the Kroot. They'll make your army.
They are not so simple to use, though.
I have the codex.. I want to have a mobile force..
I want to include stealth suits...
I don't know what opponents I'm going to face, I haven't visited the club yet..

Kroot are useless only in thier lack of armor saves, but man how many times did they soak up damage for me. They also seemed to hit more often than the FW's i had.
Definately use Kroot. a good Kroot squad can cause some serious hurt on a lot of armies. thier ability to shoot through 12" wooded terrain is nice. shoot and not be seen....
But Riki is right. definately read his stuff as well as a lot of the Tau forums. Good stuff here.
