Hey guys getting some nids. Planning on having a nice army including guants, raveners, zoans, warriors and a lictor. Into a a black, white or grey with blue things (such as tounges the peices of meat showing and the bio stuff ). And want a city fight looknig army.Any ideas on scheme will be greatly appreciated.
Decide which area you want to be the lighter area the carapace or exoskeleton and then have a colour which works with it. You could do black exoskeleton. Do this by highlighting black with dark grey and then finish off the edges with a light touch of a medium grey. You could then do the carapaces white.
There are several ways to do it. I advise you try a light bone colour like bleached bone and highlight it up to white. This will give you Tyranids that are basically dark underneath and lighter on top. If you want them to be darker you can use grey instead of white. That will make them dull looking but will make them look lke they are bred to have urban camoflage.
You can of course reverse this and have the black on top. This will make them generally darker and more sinister. However there is more detail on the exoskeleton so it will take longer to paint them if you apply a lighter colour to the exoskeleton such as white or grey. Of course you may want more of a challenge and the extra work will pay off. In my opinion when you are likely to use a dark colour on Tyranids it is best on the carapace.
There are other areas such as the joints and that strange tubing visble on thier arms and legs. You can do these areas blue. But if you are going to do tongues blue I suggest purple or a darker shade of whatever the exoskeleton is.
Final details are things like bioweapons and eyes. The tubes, ammo feeds etc on bioweapons are often best painted as the colour of the exoskeleton. An alternative is to paint them in a colour that represents thier ammunition. A green tube for the acid feed on a Hive tyrant's venom cannon for example, green icky acid! For the eyes I suggest red. Red will go well with your darker gritty, urban Tyranids. An alternative is bright green or yellow for glowing alien eyes.
Hope this helps you out.
ok will this look good? Grey skin, blue joints black carapce and a black carapce that fades to white or highlighted i should say. Any thoughs?
Ok guys thanks for the help, lemme paint up one of my BoM models and lets see how it looks.
Hmmmm... Leech if you allow me to copy your zoans carapace as shown in the gallery. Could you tell me how to do that? And just made up my mind on the scheme a grey exoskeleton, black carapce fading to white, blue joints/biomorph ma-bobs and silver metallish weaponry/teeth/claws. Sounds like some kick ass CoD army.
