Welcome to Librarium Online!
im restarting my old necrons, i havent played any 40k for like 2 years and i need advice about winning with necrons, what units to take and not to etc
all advice wud b great
thanks:yes:
This comes up sooooo often. Ill give you the quick run down. Destroyers, immortals and warriors (in that order) are your best units. Monoliths are great but becareful of your enemy - i.e. not smart to take one against Tau. Tomb spyders and heavy destroyers are a waste. Scarabs, wraiths and flayed ones are good if you know how to use them, if you dont stick with the shooty units, cant go wrong wuith them. Pariahs are up to you, they have their good points and thye have their bad points so thats really jsut personal preference.
Hope this helps
There are some inadvisable combinations, of course, but really, there's only one rule: ten Warriors per five hundred points, everything else is based on your own personal tactical preferences.
WHFB: Dwarfs || WH40k: Imperial Fists, Necrons || WM/H: Trollbloods || BFG: Necrons
For my input, I'd say figure out what kind of style you like...pop up from behind and mess up the enemies plans...charge forward straight into a bloody slaughter...watch your enemies crumble while shooting apart their advancing units...
Most of my army lists contain a large number of warriors, a monolith, decked out lord, afew flayed ones and a squad of immortals. I then think of who I will be playing then gauge the rest of my points on what I think that they will hate.
Tactics wise, Necron Armies can usually be EASILY designed for a flank attack army. (Wraiths, deystroyers, scarabs, and the many deepstriking units.) If you have the codex, there is a page in the painting section which explains each units role in this type of army.
I'd go on, but i have to go..I'll try to post more later!
If you want to know specific tactics just ask!
But dude...what are you going to do for a face when the monkey wants its ass back?
Destroyers ARE better the H.Destroyers, but that hardly makes the heavy version a waste. If I know I am going to be playing anyone with termies (usually the assault or GK variants) I most certainly will take 1 or 2 H.destroyers to zip around and snipe at the squad. They are also nice if you need to make sure that the tank you need destroyed will get destroyed. They also make a good distraction when I tell my opponent their gun profile versus the normal destroyers profile.
In regards to Tomb Spyders, I absolutly could not disagree more. I have used tomb spyders to such great effect its quite rediculous. Its nice to not have to keep my army stuck in phalanx formation to make sure if a squad wipes they can still be in range of that other warrior squad. Tomb Spyders also make pretty dandy counter-assault troops to help your poor warriors out.
Basically every troop choice is viable (except those pariahs, but thats a personal opinion). Liek what was previously stated though, your base list should loosely follow "average" warrior count.
500-1000 pts: 20 warriors
1000-1500 pts: 30-36 warriors ( i like to keep mine in squads of 12)
1500-2000 pts: 40-48 warriors ( again 48 because i run squads of 12)
Your other necessary options include a Lord, and some Destroyers. I dont care if this is just an opinion, you HAVE to take some destroyers . Beyond that its really up to what you like since they are all good choices. So definitly dont underestimate Heavy Destroyers or Tomb Spyders, though you should take some destroyers before spending additional points on the H.Destroyers.
