I painted my first genestealer yesterday for my army. I am used to marines, and all mine looked very crisp and clean. Some people said that this looks 'to clean' for a nid army, but personally I like it. I think to add a little detail, I may put orange stripes (like a tiger) on... but I haven't tried that yet. What do you think? Will this be ok for Nids?
P.S. I haven't worked on bases yet
It does look a bit clean, but if you like it then thats all that matters.
A few highlights and shading would really make it stand out. Also youve painted the flat parts of his carapace the same colour as his skin. Its interesting on the stealer, but on other nids your just gonna have an all brown nid!
Helpful comments aside, i like the colours and would be happy to see this army across the board from me.
That's th tricky part.... I left the carapace brown to make it look like the stealers are lightly armored, which they are. For the rest of the army I think I wll paint theres bone... with highlights of possibly orange. I want to finish the stealers first then figure out the gaunts when I come to it lol. I'll post a pic of the sqaud once its finished.
How do you get your Genestealers to take baths? Mine just won't stay still . It look nice and Clean to me, and I really like the ribs.
(This needs to go in the painting forums)
Keep up the good work,

You seem to know where you are going which is good. Tiger stripes will work fine if you want them. I suggest that you take a llok at actual pictures of Tigers to get an idea of what they look like. It may sound odd but animal colours are often more complicated than first imagined. Here is a link.Tigers - Google Image Search
For the rest of the model I think you need to deal with details. The teeth are very messy, not at all clean looking. You will need to shade them by painting the mouth a darker colour and then painting each tooth individually. The eyes also need work. The next thing is shading. If you look at the talons on the Genestealers, hand/rending claw, there is no shading between talon and finger you need to shade these areas. I think that's what some may criticise as clean, a lack of enough shading.
Awsome colors!!! They honestly ARE a little plain for my tastes. A little clean? No. Just a little plain. You should take some real time to think about what kind of highlights or patterns to give it. I say stay away from the orange tiger stripes. Orange and red doesn't look too great on nids. However, all criticism aside, powerful scheme. good scheme. Keep it.
I agree, there should be some shading on that Genestealer... it really makes them look nice.
Also, I like to lightly spray my bugs with a glossy lacquer. It gives them a slimy look.
