The new Forgeworld Avatar is such a nice model -
What is the most cunning way to use this highly priced monster in an army?
I had a funny game last week where my opponant said "That Avatar won't do anything in this game" - How do I make sure it does even more damage than it did after being enraged by such an insult??!
Try your damn best before the game to keep it out of reserve. If thats unavoidable take an autarch.
A tooled up Khorne Prince /w dreadaxe recently butchered my Eldrad Ulthran. The avatar joined in and promptly killed the prince. w00t!
Best thing you can do is get him into cc as fast as possible (obviously). If hes in reserve hes gone. The avatar is very mission dependant, anything that forces your opponents to come forwards means your avatar will dominate the game. Try and make him come forwards and use the avatar for defence and counterattack.
Another trick is to use 2 wraithlords to screen the avatar then just rampage forwards with a group of models. Their morale dies instantly.

If anyone wants any kind of help writing fluff for any kind of GW army just ask.
Let's face it: if your adversary wants to shoot at your avatar he will just do it... but noe with your 3+/4+(i) save he stands a much better chance of survival!
- Just love that maki! -
well, the wraithlord phalanx guard is a viable tactic, as monstrous creatures block line of sight. However, you aren't going to be blocking too much of the board. So put them between the avatar and anything with high Str and/or High rate of fire weapons.
If I am remembering correctly.
* "I'm Significant!" -screamed the dust speck
* "Call me old fashioned, but an evil ascension to power just isn't the same without someone chanting faux Latin in the background."
Two ways to use the Avatar that should work, and both are specific situations, so bear with me:
1) If your enemy is something that needs to get up close and personal, then you can get him into CC. Tyranids, Black Templars, those sorts of armies - if they need CC, then you can use the Avatar to full effect. Just watch out for those hidden power fists and the likes.
2) Take an Autarch, and use the increased Strategy Rating to choose a mission where you're either the Defender, or it's a mission such as Take & Hold, so that the enemy is going to have to go to the same place you direct your Avatar.
Also, when you take an Avatar, be wary - if he's one of few MC's or vehicles, he's going to get blasted. He is going to work best when coupled with Wraithlords, Wave Serpents, and all of the other vehicles in the Eldar arsenal. By himself, most anti-big stuff weapons will be directed to him long before his slow feet take him into combat.
Oh...duh...I'm getting him confused with the Wraithlord.
Wake. Rise. Destroy. Conquer.
We have done so once. We will do so again.
