I often play 750 point games with Tyranid against my mate who plays Blood angels. He is sporting the Deathcompany chaplain with the default retinue of 3 death company (or more depending on the roll). The chaplain has a few upgrades but his t4 has remained the same.
The carnifex is decked out with VenomC and BarbedS as well as the str and bs stat upgrades
Now i was wondering if my carnifex shot at the death company then
A) Would the chaplain be able to be picked out as a seperate target?
if i did manage to Hit and Wound the chaplain then would the chaplain be instant killed (with the Instant Death special rule) because of the carnifexus strength?
C)Is there anything else i need to think about when shooting characters like this?
Huwith, check out the stats for the venom cannon and barbie strangler very carefully.
If your carni is just at the back pumping out gooey goodness, then you'll find that the sacs de la toxin are wasted. It's only X points, but that's points which could be spent elsewhere. Also, points mean prizes.. or something.
While you can't specifically pick out the chaplain from his squad with shooting, you can force him to take the first save if you cause enough wounds to the squad with your carnifex... See the Torrent of Fire rule in the shooting section (sorry, don't have page ref, no BGB on hand).
This has the potential of insta-killing him and making the death company go uncontrollable.
Take those marines down!!!! And yes, with the VC and Barbed Strangler, you do not need to add the +1 str because you will have the max strength for both already.
Carnifex can even instant-kill a Chaos Monstrous Prince if it fails its armour save... but the thing is, fex hit last against every characters so the chance of actually killing the Librarian is slim -- Force Weapon.
Anima Tactics - try it out!
I am a fool

So yes, a Venom Cannon could instant-kill a statured Daemon Prince. Because the Venom Cannon and Barbed Strangler are already at their maximum possible strength, you don't need Toxin Sacs to do so if you're shooting them.
CC though, yeah, toxin sacs can be vitally important.
If it makes you feel any better, one of my current projects has a Flying Hive Tyrant literally grinding a Tau battlesuit into the ground. The imagery's sorta similar... (and now I've gotta add "Make a Diorama of a CCfex kicking a Daemon Prince in the groin" to my list of dioramas... I'll do that after I finish my "'Make My Monster Grow' Power Rangers Villain Brood Lord fighting a team of Eldar Rangers" diorama... )
But yeah, anyway, Venom Cannons are awesome.
