Welcome to Librarium Online!
I will be having a ~1000 pt battle Sat. and I need some help. My enemies will be vanilla SM with small-sized tac squads, a Land Raider, probably some scouts with shotguns and maybe snipers, maybe some termies, and a command squad with a commander (iron halo, power weapon, not sure about the rest), apo., and banner.
1 foot lord (prob Res Orb/Veil combo)
1 immortal and 4 warriors I can proxy as immortals to have a full squad
6 scarab swarms
2 spyders (one with PP, one without)
I am wondering what exactly to field and what I should buy because I will be going to the store before the battle. I can't decide between 4 flayed ones or another wraith, because if Im going to field the wraith I want at least 2 of them. I really love the wraiths, but I've never used them before. This is all I can buy right now, so no Destroyers, etc. Any suggestions welcomed!
I'd go with the Wraiths. 4 Flayed Ones won't be able to do much on their own. With the Wraiths, remember to target the weaker infantry squads like the small tactical squads, scouts etc. I'd avoid the Hq and terminator with the Wraiths, as they will most likely get overpowered without any support.
4 flayed ones are perfect for deepstriking onto objectives. If you need a unit for taking an objective on a random turn past deployment, a small group of flayed ones is for you.
"When a necron gets hit with a weapon more than double its toughness it is hit so hard that it goes into "negative damage" and does less damage than it actually would if it hit him with less force!" Quote from azimaith on Warseer, contemplating how much GW will Nerf the WBB rules.
Thats about all flayed ones are useful for in such a small group. If you want something that will do some damage then get the wraith, it will serve you far better than 4 flayed ones.
One Wraith is a liability and will not benifit from your TS's extra WBB roll, so I would say take a second one. On the other hand if you deepstrike four FO into your enemies deploment zone that is one thextra threat that he needs to take care of because they can hold an objective or just plain cause trouble in the back lines that he does not need, i.e. tieing up important units in HtH for a round or two.
Yes but the problem wiht deepstriking flayed ones into your enemies deployment zone is that they simply sit there for a turn and cant do a thing. As there are only 4 of them, your enemy will have no problems killing them in one turn and then that was a waste of like 75pts which coulda been spent on a wraith and 2 warriors
I agree. They can easily be destroyed, or below half strength making them useless for taking objectives with such a low squad number. Another reason to take Wraiths, in this case.Yes but the problem wiht deepstriking flayed ones into your enemies deployment zone is that they simply sit there for a turn and cant do a thing. I'm probably going to go with another wraith for a unit of 2, unless someone comes up with a really convincing arguement. I like the idea of DSing the flayed ones, but the wriaths will probably be more useful. I envision using them something like this:
Wraiths run and find cover in the middle area of the battlefield, supported by TS (should i use the PP one or the CC one?) and scarabs
Wraiths wait for unsupported, weak squad to come nearby (scouts or a small tac squad most likely)
Wraiths pounce on squad, hopefully killing them, and run away into more cover. If they need help, the scarabs/TS charge in.
How's that sound?
When I run my list, I take 6 Wraiths and keep them with my Destroyer Lord... I love the combo... keeps my Lord pretty safe. Not to mention when I give my Destroyer Lord Res. Orb and Warscythe, they are a group to be reckoned with. If I run into something tough (like termies) the lord with a Warscythe will cut them down while the Wraiths take the shots from the PFists and other powerweapons. Gotta love the protection of 3+ invuln saves
